In a car, the wiring harnesses inside the vehicle are tied together, and each harness has its own current, making it particularly easy for the harnesses to interfere with each other. These interferences can enter electronic devices through wiring harness ports or spatial radiation, thereby affecting the normal operation of the devices. Bulk current injection (BCI) test is conducted to evaluate the anti-interference ability of automotive electronic devices under continuous narrowband RF electromagnetic field interference.

BCI testing couples interference signals to various cables connected to the device (power lines, control lines, etc.) through current probes.

📏  Testing method:

Alternative method: wire harness length 1700mm, probe distance to EUT 15cm/45cm/75cm

Closed loop method: The wire harness length is 1000mm, and the monitoring probe is 5cm away from the EUT

Test frequency: Traditional range of 100kHz-400MHz, ISO 11452-4 has been extended to 3GHz (TWC method is used above 400MHz)

Different international, domestic, and automotive manufacturer standards have differences in testing items, mainly focusing on testing frequency bands, interference strength, and antenna switching frequencies. Here are some standards listed for everyone:

Test purpose

Test the anti-interference performance of the equipment in the frequency band of 1MHz-400MHz.

test conditions

Test temperature: (23 ± 5) ° C

Power supply voltage: (13.5 ± 0.5) V for 12 V;  (27 ± 1) V for 24 V

Modulation:

a. Unmodulated sine wave signal (usable range: 0.01 MHz to 18 GHz, used for calibration)

b. 1KHz, 80% modulated AM (amplitude modulation) signal (usable range: 0.01 MHz to 800 MHz, used for testing)

Dwell time: not less than 1 second

Test site: Completed in a shielded room.

Testing equipment requirements

High current injection probe, high current calibration probe, AN (simulation network), signal generator, power amplifier, power meter (or equivalent equipment), current measurement equipment, and the operating frequency of these devices must meet the testing range.

Test setup (alternative method)

There are strict requirements for the placement of grounding plates, power supplies, AN, EUT, testing harnesses, high current probes, etc. For example, the grounding plate material should be copper, brass, or galvanized steel with a minimum size of 0.5mm (minimum), with a minimum size of 1000mm wide, 1500mm long, or 200mm beyond the tested object.

Performance criteria for test results

Divided into five levels, Class A-E, different levels correspond to different functional or performance abnormalities.
