Drop Test

Equipment falling from a height requires reliable protection

Drop testing is a key test to evaluate the protective performance of equipment in the event of an accidental drop, ensuring that the equipment will not be damaged or functionally disabled during a drop. The following are the key elements and protective measures for drop testing:

1. Testing standards
Height: The drop height is determined based on the device type and usage environment, such as when a mobile phone is typically dropped from 1.2 meters to 1.5 meters.

Surface: The falling surface is usually concrete or hardwood, simulating a real falling environment.

Direction: The device needs to be dropped from different angles (such as front, back, side, corner) to ensure a comprehensive evaluation.

2. Protection design
Material selection: Use high impact resistant materials such as polycarbonate, TPU, etc. to absorb impact energy.

Structural design: By strengthening the frame and adding buffer layers, the impact force is dispersed to protect internal components.

Internal fixation: Ensure that internal components are firmly fixed to prevent loosening or displacement when dropped.

3. Testing equipment
Drop testing machine: It can accurately control the drop height, angle, and speed to ensure testing consistency.

High speed camera: Record the falling process and analyze the device's response under impact.

Sensor: measures acceleration, force, and other data during impact to evaluate impact strength.

4. Testing process
Preparation: Determine the drop height, surface, and angle.

Drop: Use a drop testing machine to perform multiple drops.

Inspection: Check the appearance and function of the equipment after each drop.

Analysis: Evaluate the protective performance based on data and inspection results.

5. Improvement measures
Material optimization: Select more suitable materials based on test results.

Structural improvement: Adjust the design to enhance impact resistance.

Process improvement: Improve manufacturing processes to ensure product consistency.

6. Common standards
MIL-STD-810G: Drop Test Standard for Military Equipment.

IEC 60068-2-32: Standard for drop testing of electronic equipment.

GB/T 2423.8: Chinese standard for drop testing of electronic equipment.

7. Precautions
Multiple tests: Ensure that the device can still function properly after multiple drops.

Environmental simulation: Consider the impact of different environments (such as temperature and humidity) on equipment.

User feedback: Optimize the design based on actual user usage.

Through these measures, the anti drop performance of the equipment can be effectively improved, ensuring that it can still function normally in the event of accidental drops.
