Lamp performance test

IEC 62612; GB/T 24908 bulb performance testing

The bulb performance test is an important testing method for evaluating the performance of self ballasted LED bulbs for general lighting, mainly based on IEC 62612 and GB/T 24908 standards. The following is a detailed explanation about the performance testing of light bulbs:

1. Overview of Testing Standards

(1) IEC 62612

Full name: IEC 62612《Self-ballasted LED lamps for general lighting services - Performance requirements》。

Scope of application: Suitable for performance testing of self ballasted LED bulbs for general lighting.

Main content: including performance indicators such as luminous flux, luminous efficiency, color temperature, color rendering index, lifespan, start-up time, electrical characteristics, etc.

(2) GB/T 24908

Full name: GB/T 24908 "Performance Requirements for Self ballasted LED Lamps for General Lighting".

Scope of application: Suitable for performance testing of self ballasted LED bulbs for general lighting in the Chinese market.

Main content: Similar to IEC 62612, including performance indicators such as luminous flux, luminous efficiency, color temperature, color rendering index, lifespan, start-up time, electrical characteristics, etc.

2. Main testing items

(1) Luminous flux

Definition: The total amount of light emitted by a light bulb, measured in lumens (lm).

Test method: Use an integrating sphere and a photometer to measure the luminous flux of the light bulb.

(2) Light effect

Definition: The ratio of the luminous flux of a light bulb to the input power, measured in lumens per watt (lm/W).

Testing method: Measure the luminous flux and input power of the light bulb, and calculate the luminous efficiency.

(3) Color temperature

Definition: The color characteristic of light emitted by a light bulb, measured in Kelvin (K).

Test method: Use a colorimeter to measure the color temperature of the light bulb.

(4) Color rendering index (CRI)

Definition: An indicator of the ability of a light bulb to reproduce the color of an object, ranging from 0 to 100.

Testing method: Use a spectral radiometer to measure the spectral distribution of the light bulb and calculate the color rendering index.

(5) Lifespan

Definition: The time it takes for a light bulb to operate at rated conditions until the luminous flux decays to 70% of its initial value.

Testing method: Evaluate the lifespan of the light bulb through accelerated lifespan testing or actual lifespan testing.

(6) Start time

Definition: The time required from power on to 98% stable light output.

Test method: Use a photometer and timer to measure the start time.

(7) Electrical characteristics

Input voltage: The rated input voltage of the light bulb.

Input current: The rated input current of the light bulb.

Power factor: the ratio of active power to apparent power of a light bulb.

Harmonic distortion: The proportion of harmonic components in the input current of a light bulb.

(8) Thermal characteristics

Junction temperature: The temperature of LED chips, which affects the performance and lifespan of light bulbs.

Thermal resistance: The thermal conductivity characteristics of a light bulb.

3. Testing equipment

Integral sphere: used for measuring luminous flux and luminous efficiency.

Photometer: used to measure light output.

Colorimeter: used to measure color temperature and color rendering index.

Power analyzer: used to measure power factor and harmonic distortion.

Thermal imaging instrument: used to measure junction temperature and thermal resistance.

Lifetime testing equipment: used to evaluate the lifespan of light bulbs.

4. Corporate Responsibility

(1) Product Design

Optimize bulb design to improve light efficiency, color rendering index, and lifespan.

Choose high-quality LED chips and driver circuits to reduce harmonic distortion.

(2) Compliance testing

Ensure that the product complies with IEC 62612 and GB/T 24908 standards through bulb performance testing.

Prepare complete technical documents, including test reports, design drawings, etc.

(3) Labels and identification

Label performance parameters on the product, such as luminous flux, luminous efficiency, color temperature, color rendering index, etc.

Provide instructions for use, including applicable conditions, safety precautions, etc.

5. Summary

The bulb performance test is an important method for evaluating the performance of self ballasted LED bulbs for general lighting. According to the IEC 62612 and GB/T 24908 standards, it covers indicators such as luminous flux, luminous efficiency, color temperature, color rendering index, lifespan, start-up time, and electrical characteristics. Enterprises need to optimize product design, ensure product compliance with relevant standards through performance testing, fulfill compliance responsibilities, and enhance product quality and market competitiveness.
