Slow rise and fall of power supply voltage

Simulate the voltage changes during the gradual discharge and charging of the battery to determine whether the functional state of the sample meets the design requirements.

Objective of the experiment
The purpose of this experiment is to simulate the voltage changes during the gradual discharge (voltage ramp up) and charging (voltage ramp up) of a battery, test the performance of the equipment under the conditions of power supply voltage ramp up and ramp up, and evaluate whether its functional status meets the design requirements. Through experiments, verify the tolerance and stability of the equipment under voltage ramp up and ramp down conditions, ensuring its reliability in practical applications.

Experimental Background
In a vehicle or battery power supply system, the supply voltage gradually changes with the discharge and charging of the battery:

Voltage gradual drop:

When the battery gradually discharges, the supply voltage slowly decreases (such as from 12V to 10V).

Voltage ramp up:

As the battery gradually charges, the supply voltage slowly increases (such as from 12V to 14V).

For electrical equipment, the gradual rise and fall of power supply voltage may lead to functional abnormalities or performance degradation, so it is necessary to test the performance of the equipment under these conditions.

Experimental equipment
Device under Test (DUT): Electrical equipment or system that needs to be tested.

Programmable DC power supply: simulates the gradual rise and fall of battery voltage.

Voltage meter: monitors the amplitude and rate of change of voltage rise and fall.

Ammeter: measures the current as the voltage rises and falls slowly.

Oscilloscope: Monitor the waveform of voltage rise and fall and the working status of the equipment.

Load simulator: Simulate the load situation of the device in actual operation.

Temperature control device (optional): Simulate voltage changes under different environmental temperatures.

Experimental Procedure
Device connection:

Connect the DUT to a programmable DC power supply.

Connect an ammeter in series and a voltmeter in parallel in a circuit to monitor current and voltage.

Connect the oscilloscope to monitor the waveform of voltage rise and fall and the working status of the equipment.

Connect the load simulator to simulate the load of the device in actual operation.

Initial testing:

Under normal operating conditions, record the working status of the DUT, including voltage, current, and functional performance.

Voltage droop simulation:

Using a programmable DC power supply, simulate the gradual voltage drop of a battery during gradual discharge (such as slowly dropping from 12V to 10V, with a rate of change set to 0.1V/min or lower).

Record the voltage, current, and operating status of the DUT under voltage ramp down.

Observe whether there are any abnormalities in the equipment, such as functional failure, performance degradation, etc.

Voltage ramp up simulation:

Using a programmable DC power supply, simulate the gradual voltage rise of a battery during gradual charging (such as slowly increasing from 12V to 14V, with a rate of change set to 0.1V/min or lower).

Record the voltage, current, and working status of the DUT under voltage ramp up.

Observe whether there are any abnormalities in the equipment, such as functional failure, performance degradation, etc.

Functional status verification:

During the gradual increase and decrease of voltage, check whether the equipment can work properly.

Record the functional status of the device after gradual voltage rise and fall.

Multiple tests:

Repeat the test at different voltage change rates (such as 0.05V/min, 0.1V/min, 0.2V/min) to evaluate the performance of the equipment.

Data analysis:

Compare the test data under different voltage ramp up and ramp down conditions and analyze the performance of the equipment.

Evaluate whether the performance of the equipment meets the design requirements.

Experimental precautions
safety first:

The gradual rise and fall of voltage may have an impact on the equipment, and protective measures should be taken to avoid equipment damage.

Ensure good ventilation in the experimental environment to avoid equipment overheating and causing fires.

Gradually adjust parameters:

When simulating the gradual rise and fall of voltage, the rate of voltage change should be gradually adjusted to avoid equipment damage caused by instantaneous high current.

Real-time monitoring

During the experiment, real-time monitoring of voltage, current, and equipment status is required to promptly detect any abnormalities.

Temperature simulation (optional):

If it is necessary to test the performance of equipment at different temperatures, temperature control devices can be used to simulate low or high temperature environments.

Experimental results and conclusions
Experimental results:

Record the performance of the device under different voltage ramp up and ramp down conditions, including functional status, performance changes, etc.

Record the working status of the equipment after the voltage gradually rises and falls.

Conclusion:

Evaluate the performance of the equipment under voltage ramp up and ramp down conditions, and confirm whether it meets the design requirements.

If the device is malfunctioning, analyze the cause and provide improvement suggestions.

If the device has effective voltage change adaptability, confirm that it meets the design requirements.

Appendix: Typical parameters for voltage ramp up and ramp down
Voltage gradual drop:

12V system: Slowly decrease from 12V to 10V, with a rate of change of 0.1V/min.

24V system: Slowly decrease from 24V to 20V, with a rate of change of 0.1V/min.

Voltage ramp up:

12V system: Slowly increase from 12V to 14V, with a rate of change of 0.1V/min.

24V system: Slowly increase from 24V to 28V, with a rate of change of 0.1V/min.

Through this experiment, the performance of the equipment under the conditions of gradual rise and fall of power supply voltage can be verified, ensuring its normal operation or effective protection in practical applications.
