temperature rise

Temperature rise refers to the temperature at which various components in electronic and electrical equipment exceed the ambient temperature. After passing through a conductor, a current thermal effect is generated, and over time, the temperature on the surface of the conductor continues to rise until it stabilizes.

Test purpose
Evaluate the temperature rise of each component of electronic and electrical equipment relative to the ambient temperature under normal operating conditions, ensuring that the equipment operates within a safe temperature range and avoiding performance degradation or damage caused by overheating.

Test Standard
According to the standard:

IEC 60990: Test method for temperature rise of electronic equipment

GB/T 7251.1: Temperature Rise Test for Low Voltage Switchgear Sets

UL 60950: Temperature Rise Test for Information Technology Equipment

Test Principle
After the conductor passes through, it generates a current thermal effect, causing the temperature of equipment components to rise. As time goes by, the temperature gradually stabilizes. Evaluate the temperature rise performance of the equipment by measuring the difference between the temperature of each component and the ambient temperature.

test equipment
Temperature measurement equipment (thermocouples, infrared thermometers, etc.)

Current source (simulating the normal operating current of the device)

Environmental thermometer

data logger

Insulation tester (optional)

Test steps
Sample preparation:

Ensure that the equipment is in normal working condition, clean the surface of the equipment, and ensure that there are no obstructions.

Install temperature sensors (such as thermocouples) on the components that need to be tested (such as conductors, casings, heat sinks, etc.).

Record the ambient temperature.

Test condition settings:

Current setting: Set the test current based on the rated operating current of the equipment.

Environmental temperature: Record the ambient temperature at the beginning of the test (usually 25 ± 5 ℃).

Testing time: Continue testing until the temperature stabilizes (usually 2-4 hours).

Test Run:

Start the current source and apply the rated operating current to the equipment.

Real time monitoring and recording of the temperature of each component of the equipment and the ambient temperature.

Observe temperature changes until the temperature stabilizes (usually temperature changes do not exceed 1 ℃/hour).

Test completed:

Stop the current source and record the final temperature value.

Calculate the temperature rise value (component temperature - ambient temperature).

Result evaluation:

Temperature rise limit: Determine whether the temperature rise value is within the allowable range based on relevant standards or product specifications.

Safety performance: Evaluate whether the device has a risk of overheating and whether it meets safety requirements.

Performance impact: Analyze the impact of temperature rise on the electrical and mechanical performance of equipment.

Precautions
Ensure that the temperature sensor is securely installed to avoid measurement errors caused by poor contact.

Maintain stable ambient temperature during the testing process to avoid external interference.

After the test is completed, promptly record the data and analyze the results.

Test Record
Record the testing conditions (current value, ambient temperature, testing time, etc.).

Record the temperature variation curve of each component of the device over time.

Record the final temperature rise and evaluation results.

Conclusion
Based on the test results, evaluate the temperature rise performance of the equipment under normal working conditions and issue a test report. Through this test, it can be ensured that the equipment operates within a safe temperature range, avoiding malfunctions or damage caused by overheating.
