CCPSA is the abbreviation for the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, which is a Canadian consumer product safety regulation. Part SOR/2011-17 specifies the requirements for toys.
Any written statement or warning of this requirement must appear in both English and French. The regulations apply to toys intended for use by children under the age of 14. Like Europe and America, it also includes requirements for physical and mechanical properties, combustion performance, heavy metals, and ortho benzene plasticizers.
The latest update in 2022 is that it is now possible to accept European or American toy heavy metal migration testing methods to determine the content of five elements. In addition, the testing objects have been expanded, and there are also testing requirements for materials such as stickers and removable films.
SOR/2018-82 is a requirement for children's jewelry, including:
·When tested using good laboratory practices, the lead content in children's jewelry should not exceed 90 mg/kg.
·When tested using good laboratory practice, if the jewelry is small enough to be completely enclosed in the small part cylinder shown in the attached table with a force not exceeding 4.45 N, the cadmium content of children's jewelry shall not exceed 130 mg/kg.
SOR/2018 83 is a requirement for lead content in Canadian consumer goods:
When tested according to good laboratory practice, the lead content of each accessible part of consumer goods containing lead shall not exceed 90 mg/kg unless:
·Lead is necessary to produce the basic features of the parts;
·No alternative components containing less lead are available.
