CE-ERP certification

CE-ERP certification is a mandatory energy efficiency certification implemented by the European Union for Energy related Products (ErP), which is part of the CE certification system aimed at improving product energy efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and environmental impact. For electronic product companies planning to enter the EU market, understanding and complying with CE-ERP certification is a crucial step in building a digital transformation compliance path and reducing cross-border risks.

1、 The core positioning of CE-ERP certification

Legal attribute: CE-ERP certification is not independent of CE certification, but a special requirement for product energy efficiency in the CE mark. It is implemented in accordance with Directive 2009/125/EC (ErP Directive) and has been mandatory in the European Union since 2013.
Core objective: To promote green and low-carbon development by standardizing product energy efficiency, standby power consumption, material recyclability, and other aspects through Eco design.
Logo reflection: Certified products need to be affixed with the CE mark and additionally labeled with energy efficiency level labels (A+++to G) on some categories (such as home appliances and lighting).

✅  In short, all energy related products entering the EU market that do not meet the ErP energy efficiency requirements, even if they pass other CE modules such as safety regulations and EMC, cannot be legally sold.

2、 Which products require CE-ERP certification?

CE-ERP certification covers a wide range of products that consume or affect energy during use, especially suitable for the following categories:

Household appliances
Items such as refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, rice cookers, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, etc. must meet energy efficiency levels, standby power consumption, and other indicators.

Lighting equipment
Including LED lights, energy-saving lamps, ballasts, dimmers, etc., there are clear requirements for light efficiency, power factor, and lifespan.

IT and audio and video equipment
For laptops, monitors, printers, televisions, routers, set-top boxes, etc., focus on idle power consumption and average work efficiency.

Industrial and power products
Such as switch power supplies, external power adapters UPS、 Variable frequency drives and other equipment must comply with energy efficiency standards such as EC No 278/2009.

Other energy related products
Electric fans, electric heaters, water pumps, motors, etc. are all within the control range of Attachment I of the ErP instruction.

3、 Key requirements and processes for CE-ERP certification

1. Compliance assessment path

The manufacturer can select one of the following modes to complete the evaluation:

Internal Design Control (applicable to most small and medium-sized enterprises)
Environmental management system (if the enterprise has passed ISO 14001, it can simplify the process)

2. Preparation of core technical documents

Product Technical Description and Specifications
Energy Efficiency Test Report (issued by an EU accredited laboratory)
Circuit diagram and list of key components
User manual (including energy efficiency information)
Declaration of Conformity (DoC)
