Reverse voltage

Simulate the reverse connection of the battery during vehicle assisted starting. (This experiment is not suitable for AC generators and devices with clamp diodes without external reverse polarity protection).

The purpose of this experiment is to simulate the reverse connection of the battery during vehicle assisted starting, and to test the equipment's tolerance and protection mechanism under reverse voltage conditions. Through experiments, evaluate the safety and reliability of the device when connected in reverse polarity, ensuring that it will not be damaged in abnormal situations.

Experimental equipment
Device under Test (DUT): A device or system that needs to be tested.

DC power supply: Simulate the voltage of a battery (usually 12V or 24V).

Reverse voltage simulator: used to simulate reverse connection situations.

Ammeter: measures the current under reverse voltage.

Voltage meter: monitors the amplitude of reverse voltage.

Load simulator: Simulate the load situation of the device in actual operation.

Protective devices (such as fuses, diodes): used to verify the reverse polarity protection mechanism of the equipment.

Experimental Procedure
Device connection:

Connect the DUT to the DC power supply, ensuring proper connection (positive pole connected to positive pole, negative pole connected to negative pole).

Connect an ammeter in series and a voltmeter in parallel in a circuit to monitor current and voltage.

Connect the load simulator to simulate the load of the device in actual operation.

Initial testing:

Under normal connection conditions, record the working status of the DUT, including voltage, current, and functional performance.

Reverse voltage simulation:

Use a reverse voltage simulator to reverse the positive and negative terminals of a DC power supply and simulate the reverse connection of a battery.

Gradually increase the reverse voltage and observe the response of the DUT.

Record data:

Record the current, voltage, and operating status of the DUT under reverse voltage.

Observe whether there are any abnormalities in the DUT, such as overheating, smoking, functional failure, etc.

Protection mechanism verification:

If the DUT has a reverse polarity protection mechanism (such as diodes, fuses), verify whether it works properly under reverse voltage.

Record the action of the protective device (such as whether the fuse is blown).

Recovery testing:

Restore normal power connection and check if the DUT can resume normal operation.

Record the working status of DUT after restoring normal connection.

Data analysis:

Compare the test data under normal connection and reverse connection, and analyze the performance of DUT under reverse voltage.

Evaluate whether the reverse polarity protection mechanism of DUT is effective.

Experimental precautions
safety first:

There may be risks such as short circuit and overheating during the experimental process, and protective measures need to be taken.

Ensure good ventilation in the experimental environment to avoid equipment overheating and causing fires.

Gradually increase the voltage:

When simulating reverse voltage, the voltage should be gradually increased to avoid momentary high voltage damage to the equipment.

Real-time monitoring

Real time monitoring of current, voltage, and equipment status is required during the experimental process to promptly detect any abnormalities.

Protector:

If the DUT does not have built-in reverse polarity protection, it is recommended to add external protective devices (such as fuses) during the experiment to prevent equipment damage.

Experimental results and conclusions
Experimental results:

Record the performance of DUT under reverse voltage, including whether it is damaged and whether the protective device is activated.

Record the working status of DUT after restoring normal connection.

Conclusion:

Evaluate the tolerance and effectiveness of the protection mechanism of DUT under reverse voltage conditions.

If the DUT is damaged, analyze the cause of the damage and provide improvement suggestions.

If the DUT has an effective reverse polarity protection mechanism, confirm that it meets the design requirements.

experiment report
The experimental report should include the following contents:

Experimental objective: Briefly describe the objectives of the experiment.

Experimental equipment: List all the equipment used and their specifications.

Experimental steps: Detailed description of the experimental operation process.

Experimental data: Record all test data, including charts and waveforms.

Data analysis: Analyze experimental data to draw conclusions.

Conclusion and Suggestions: Summarize the experimental results and propose improvement suggestions.

Through this experiment, the safety and reliability of the equipment under reverse voltage conditions can be verified, ensuring its normal operation or effective protection in abnormal situations such as vehicle auxiliary starting.
