Mechanical inspection - Mechanical collision test

Mechanical Impact Test is a testing method used to evaluate the impact resistance and structural integrity of a product when subjected to mechanical impact or collision. This test is widely used in electronic devices, automotive parts, packaging materials, industrial equipment, and other fields to simulate the impact situations that products may encounter during transportation, use, or accidental drops.

Test purpose
Evaluate impact resistance: Test the product's ability to resist damage when subjected to mechanical collisions.

Verify structural integrity: Ensure that the product can maintain its functionality and structural integrity even after collision.

Optimization design: Improve product design based on test results to enhance its impact resistance performance.

Test Principle
Mechanical collision test simulates the impact situations that a product may encounter during actual use or transportation, applies instantaneous impact force to the sample using impact equipment, and observes the damage or performance changes of the sample.

Test Type
Free Drop Test:

Simulate the situation where a product falls from a certain height onto a hard surface (such as a cement floor).

Test parameters: drop height, drop frequency, drop angle.

Shock Test:

Simulate the instantaneous impact experienced by the product during transportation or use.

Test parameters: impact acceleration, impact duration, and impact direction.

Bump Test:

Simulate continuous collisions experienced by the product during transportation.

Test parameters: collision acceleration, collision frequency, collision frequency.

Pendulum Impact Test:

Use a pendulum to apply impact force to the sample and evaluate its impact resistance performance.

Test parameters: weight of pendulum, impact speed, impact energy.

test conditions
Impact energy: Typically ranging from a few joules to several hundred joules, depending on the product type and application scenario.

Impact acceleration: usually 50g to 500g, adjusted according to testing standards or product requirements.

Impact frequency: Depending on product requirements, it usually ranges from a few to dozens of times.

Environmental conditions: Normal temperature, high temperature, low temperature, or humidity environments can be selected for testing to simulate different usage conditions.

Test steps
Sample preparation: Select representative samples to ensure they are in normal working condition.

Install sample: Fix the sample on the testing equipment to ensure accurate impact position.

Set parameters: According to testing standards or product requirements, set the impact energy, acceleration, frequency, and environmental conditions.

Start testing: Start the testing equipment and apply impact to the sample.

Periodic inspection: Regularly check the functionality and structural integrity of the sample, and record any damage.

Test completion: Stop testing when the predetermined number of tests is reached or when the sample fails.

Data analysis: Analyze the damage situation of the sample and evaluate its impact resistance performance.

test equipment
Drop testing machine: used for free drop testing, capable of controlling the height and angle of the drop.

Impact testing machine: used for impact testing, capable of controlling impact acceleration and duration.

Collision testing machine: used for collision testing, capable of simulating continuous collisions.

Pendulum impact testing machine: used for pendulum impact testing, can control the impact energy.

High speed camera (optional): used to record the deformation and damage of the sample during the impact process.

Common standards
IEC 60068: Environmental testing standards for electrical and electronic products, including mechanical impact testing.

MIL-STD-810: Environmental testing standard for military equipment, including mechanical impact and collision tests.

ASTM D4169: Mechanical impact testing standard for transport packaging.

GB/T 2423: Chinese National Standard, Environmental Test Methods for Electrical and Electronic Products.

ISTA: International Safe Transport Association standard, used for drop and impact testing of packaging.

data analysis
Damage assessment: Observe the appearance damage, cracks, deformation, and other conditions of the sample.

Function check: Test whether the sample can still function normally after collision.

Structural integrity: Evaluate whether the structure of the sample remains intact, whether there is looseness or fracture.

Application field
Electronic devices: Test the anti drop performance of devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, etc.

Automotive components: Evaluate the impact resistance of automotive components in collisions.

Packaging materials: Test the impact resistance of transportation packaging to ensure the safety of the product during transportation.

Industrial equipment: Evaluate the reliability of industrial equipment in the event of accidental collisions.

Through mechanical collision tests, the impact resistance and structural integrity of products can be effectively evaluated, providing scientific basis for product design and quality control.
