Overlay communication

This experiment simulates the ripple voltage that occurs under DC supply voltage to determine whether the functional state of the sample meets the design requirements.

Objective of the experiment
The purpose of this experiment is to simulate the ripple voltage (AC component superimposed on DC voltage) that occurs under DC power supply conditions, test the performance of the equipment under the condition of superimposed AC voltage, and evaluate whether its functional status meets the design requirements. Through experiments, verify the tolerance and stability of the equipment under ripple voltage, ensuring its reliability in practical applications.

Experimental Background
Ripple voltage is a common phenomenon in DC power supply systems, usually caused by the following reasons:

Insufficient power filtering:

The power filter circuit failed to completely eliminate AC components.

Load fluctuation:

The rapid change in load current causes ripple in the power output.

External interference:

External electromagnetic interference (EMI) couples into power lines.

Ripple voltage may cause unstable operation or performance degradation of equipment, therefore it is necessary to test the performance of the equipment under the condition of superimposed AC voltage.

Experimental equipment
Device under Test (DUT): Electrical equipment or system that needs to be tested.

DC power supply: provides stable DC voltage (such as 12V or 24V).

AC signal generator: generates AC ripple superimposed on DC voltage.

Voltage meter: monitors the amplitude of DC voltage and AC ripple.

Ammeter: measures the current under superimposed AC voltage.

Oscilloscope: Monitor the waveform of superimposed AC voltage and the working status of the equipment.

Load simulator: Simulate the load situation of the device in actual operation.

Experimental Procedure
Device connection:

Connect the DUT to a DC power supply.

Use an AC signal generator to superimpose AC ripple onto DC voltage.

Connect an ammeter in series and a voltmeter in parallel in a circuit to monitor current and voltage.

Connect the oscilloscope to monitor the waveform of the superimposed AC voltage and the working status of the equipment.

Connect the load simulator to simulate the load of the device in actual operation.

Initial testing:

Under normal operating conditions without ripple voltage, record the working status of the DUT, including voltage, current, and functional performance.

Overlay AC voltage simulation:

Use an AC signal generator to generate AC ripples of different frequencies and amplitudes (such as 100Hz, 1kHz, with amplitudes of 5% -10% of DC voltage).

Overlay the AC ripple onto the DC voltage, record the voltage, current, and operating status of the DUT under the superimposed AC voltage.

Observe whether there are any abnormalities in the equipment, such as functional failure, performance degradation, etc.

Functional status verification:

Check if the equipment can work properly under the condition of superimposed AC voltage.

Record the functional status of the device after superimposing AC voltage.

Multiple tests:

Repeat the test under different communication ripple conditions (such as different frequencies and amplitudes) to evaluate the performance of the equipment.

Data analysis:

Compare test data under different superimposed AC voltage conditions and analyze the performance of the equipment.

Evaluate whether the performance of the equipment meets the design requirements.

Experimental precautions
safety first:

Stacking AC voltage may have an impact on equipment, and protective measures should be taken to avoid equipment damage.

Ensure good ventilation in the experimental environment to avoid equipment overheating and causing fires.

Gradually adjust parameters:

When simulating superimposed AC voltage, the frequency and amplitude of AC ripple should be gradually adjusted to avoid equipment damage caused by instantaneous high current.

Real-time monitoring

During the experiment, real-time monitoring of voltage, current, and equipment status is required to promptly detect any abnormalities.

Load simulation:

Ensure that the load simulator can accurately simulate the load situation of the equipment in actual operation.

Experimental results and conclusions
Experimental results:

Record the performance of the device under different superimposed AC voltage conditions, including functional status, performance changes, etc.

Record the working status of the device after superimposing AC voltage.

Conclusion:

Evaluate the performance of the equipment under the condition of superimposed AC voltage and confirm whether it meets the design requirements.

If the device is malfunctioning, analyze the cause and provide improvement suggestions.

If the device has effective ripple suppression capability, confirm that it meets the design requirements.

experiment report
The experimental report should include the following contents:

Experimental objective: Briefly describe the objectives of the experiment.

Experimental equipment: List all the equipment used and their specifications.

Experimental steps: Detailed description of the experimental operation process.

Experimental data: Record all test data, including charts and waveforms.

Data analysis: Analyze experimental data to draw conclusions.

Conclusion and Suggestions: Summarize the experimental results and propose improvement suggestions.

Appendix: Typical Parameters of Stacked AC Voltage
Communication ripple frequency:

The common frequency range is 100Hz-10kHz.

Communication ripple amplitude:

Usually 5% -10% of the DC voltage (such as 0.6V-1.2V in a 12V system).

DC voltage:

12V system: 12V DC voltage.

24V system: 24V DC voltage.

Through this experiment, the performance of the device under the condition of superimposed AC voltage can be verified, ensuring its normal operation or effective protection in practical applications.
