Mechanical testing - Vibration testing

Vibration test is a testing method used to evaluate the durability and reliability of products in a vibrating environment. This test simulates the vibration conditions that the product may encounter during transportation, use, or operation to detect its structural integrity, functional stability, and potential design defects. Vibration testing is widely used in fields such as electronic equipment, automotive components, aerospace equipment, and industrial machinery.

Test purpose
Evaluate durability: Test the structural integrity and functional stability of the product in a vibrating environment.

Discovery of design defects: Potential issues in product design or manufacturing are identified through vibration testing.

Verify reliability: Ensure that the product can work normally in a vibrating environment and meet the requirements of its service life.

Optimization design: Improve product design based on test results to enhance its anti vibration performance.

Test Type
Sine Vibration Test:

Simulate a single frequency vibration environment to evaluate the response of a product at a specific frequency.

Test parameters: frequency range, amplitude, acceleration, duration.

Random Vibration Test:

Simulate complex vibration conditions in actual environments, with random variations in vibration frequency and amplitude.

Test parameters: power spectral density (PSD), frequency range, duration.

Shock Vibration Test:

Simulate the instantaneous impact vibration experienced by the product during transportation or use.

Test parameters: impact waveform, impact acceleration, duration.

Combined Vibration Test:

Simulate more complex vibration environments by combining sinusoidal and random vibrations.

test conditions
Frequency range: usually 5 Hz to 2000 Hz, adjusted according to product type and application scenario.

Amplitude: usually ranging from 0.1 mm to 10 mm, adjusted according to testing standards or product requirements.

Acceleration: usually ranging from 1g to 10g, adjusted according to testing standards or product requirements.

Duration: Depending on product requirements, it typically ranges from a few minutes to several tens of hours.

Environmental conditions: Normal temperature, high temperature, low temperature, or humidity environments can be selected for testing to simulate different usage conditions.

Test steps
Sample preparation: Select representative samples to ensure they are in normal working condition.

Install sample: Fix the sample on the vibration test bench to ensure a secure installation.

Set parameters: Set frequency range, amplitude, acceleration, and duration according to testing standards or product requirements.

Start testing: Start the vibration test bench and apply vibration to the sample.

Periodic inspection: Regularly check the functionality and structural integrity of the sample, and record any damage.

Testing completed: Stop testing when the scheduled testing time is reached or when the sample fails.

Data analysis: Analyze the damage situation of the sample and evaluate its anti vibration performance.

test equipment
Vibration test bench: used for generating and controlling vibrations, divided into electric vibration bench and hydraulic vibration bench.

Acceleration sensor: used to measure acceleration during vibration processes.

Data acquisition system: used to record and analyze vibration data.

Environmental test chamber (optional): used to simulate high temperature, low temperature, or humidity environments.

Common standards
IEC 60068: Environmental testing standards for electrical and electronic products, including vibration testing.

MIL-STD-810: Environmental testing standard for military equipment, including vibration testing.

ASTM D999: Vibration Testing Standard for Packaging Components.

GB/T 2423: Chinese National Standard, Environmental Test Methods for Electrical and Electronic Products.

ISO 16750: Vibration testing standard for automotive electronic equipment.

data analysis
Damage assessment: Observe the appearance damage, cracks, deformation, and other conditions of the sample.

Function check: Test whether the sample can still work normally after vibration.

Structural integrity: Evaluate whether the structure of the sample remains intact, whether there is looseness or fracture.

Resonance frequency analysis: Determine the resonance frequency of the sample through sine vibration test and evaluate its anti vibration performance.

Application field
Electronic devices: Test the anti vibration performance of devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, etc.

Automotive components: Evaluate the anti vibration performance of automotive components during driving.

Aerospace: Testing the anti vibration performance of aerospace equipment during flight.

Industrial Machinery: Evaluating the reliability of industrial equipment in vibration environments.

Precautions
Sample selection: Ensure that the sample is representative and avoid deviation in test results.

Parameter setting: Set reasonable testing conditions based on the actual usage environment of the product.

Data recording: Detailed recording of various data during the testing process for subsequent analysis.

Equipment calibration: Regularly calibrate testing equipment to ensure the accuracy of test results.

Through vibration testing, the durability and reliability of products in vibration environments can be effectively evaluated, providing scientific basis for product design and quality control.
