Random vibration test

This test reveals the stress accumulation effect and specific mechanical performance degradation caused by random vibration, as well as the use of this information and relevant specifications to evaluate the acceptability of test samples.

Random vibration testing is a testing method used to evaluate the performance and reliability of equipment in a random vibration environment. This test simulates the complex vibration environment that the equipment may encounter in practical use (such as mechanical vibrations during transportation and operation), revealing the stress accumulation effect and mechanical performance degradation caused by random vibrations, thereby providing a basis for design improvement and quality control. The following are the key elements and steps of random vibration testing:

1. Test objectives
Stress Accumulation Effect: Evaluating the stress accumulation of equipment under random vibration.

Mechanical performance: Check the structural integrity and functional reliability of the equipment after vibration.

Failure analysis: Expose potential failure modes of equipment under random vibration.

2. Testing conditions
Vibration frequency range: usually from 5Hz to 2000Hz, covering the main vibration frequencies that the equipment may encounter.

Power Spectral Density (PSD): defines the energy distribution of random vibrations, typically expressed in g ²/Hz.

Vibration direction: The equipment needs to withstand vibration from different directions (such as X, Y, Z axes) to ensure comprehensive evaluation.

Testing time: determined based on device type and application scenario (e.g. 1 hour, 2 hours).

Environmental conditions: Test under standard conditions (such as temperature of 25 ° C and humidity of 50%), or simulate extreme environments for additional testing.

3. Testing equipment
Vibration table: Provides random vibration and precise control of frequency range and PSD.

Acceleration sensor: measures the acceleration during vibration and evaluates the intensity of vibration.

Data acquisition system: records acceleration, displacement, and other data during the vibration process.

Monitoring equipment: Real time monitoring of the functional status of the equipment.

4. Testing steps
prepare

Determine the vibration frequency range, PSD, and testing time.

Check the appearance and function of the equipment, and record the initial state.

Installation equipment:

Fix the device on the vibration table and ensure good contact between it and the vibration table.

Apply vibration:

Start the vibration table and apply random vibration according to the set parameters.

Monitoring and recording:

Real time monitoring of equipment's functional status and recording of vibration data.

Inspection and analysis:

After the test is completed, check the appearance and function of the equipment, and analyze the vibration data.

Judgment:

Confirm whether the equipment meets the requirements of structural integrity and functional reliability.

5. Judgment criteria
Appearance inspection: There is no obvious damage (such as cracks or deformation) on the appearance of the equipment.

Function check: The device is functioning properly and there is no performance degradation or failure.

Structural inspection: There is no looseness, detachment, or damage to the internal components.

6. Improvement measures
Material optimization: Choose materials with higher strength or more vibration resistance.

Structural design: Add reinforcement bars, buffer zones, or shock-absorbing design.

Internal fixation: Ensure that internal components (such as circuit boards, batteries) are securely fixed.

Protective design: Adopting modular design to reduce the impact of vibration on internal components.

7. Common standards
IEC 60068-2-64: Standard for Random Vibration Testing of Electronic Equipment.

MIL-STD-810G: Vibration Testing Standard for Military Equipment.

GB/T 2423.56: Chinese standard for random vibration testing of electronic equipment.

ASTM D3580: Standard for Vibration Testing of Packaging Materials.

8. Precautions
Test safety: Ensure that there are no personnel in the vibration area to avoid accidental injury.

Environmental control: Accurately control vibration parameters to ensure testing consistency.

Multiple tests: Ensure that the device can still function properly after multiple vibrations.

User scenario: Simulate complex vibration environments in actual use.

Through random vibration testing, the performance and reliability of equipment in random vibration environments can be comprehensively evaluated, revealing stress accumulation effects and mechanical performance degradation, providing a basis for design improvement and quality control, ensuring that the equipment can adapt to complex vibration environments and maintain normal operation in practical use.
