Pullout force test

The force required to remove the plug from the device head or socket, or to separate the male and female connectors in half.

Pull out force test is a key test to evaluate the mechanical performance of connectors (such as plugs, sockets, male and female connectors), aimed at measuring the force required to pull the plug out of the socket or connector, ensuring that the connector has sufficient holding force during use, while avoiding excessive pull out force that may cause difficulties for users to operate. The following are the key elements and steps of the pull-out force test:

1. Test objectives
Pull out force: measures the force required to pull a plug out of a socket or connector.

Retention force: Ensure that the connector has sufficient mechanical stability after insertion to avoid accidental detachment.

User experience: Ensure that the pulling force is within a reasonable range to avoid difficulties in user operation.

2. Testing conditions
Testing equipment: Use a tensile testing machine or a specialized insertion and extraction force tester.

Test speed: usually 25-50 mm/min, simulating actual pulling force.

Test frequency: Usually, multiple pull-out force tests (such as 10 times) are conducted to evaluate the durability of the connector.

Environmental conditions: Test under standard conditions (such as temperature of 25 ° C and humidity of 50%), or simulate extreme environments for additional testing.

3. Testing equipment
Tensile testing machine: It can accurately control the testing speed and measure the force value.

Special fixtures: used to secure connectors and plugs to ensure testing consistency.

Data logger: Record the variation curve of pulling force.

4. Testing steps
prepare

Clean the connectors and plugs to ensure that there is no dust or foreign matter affecting the test results.

Fix the connector and plug onto the testing equipment.

Plug in connector:

Fully insert the plug into the socket or connector, ensuring it is securely in place.

Pull out force test:

Start the testing equipment and unplug the plug from the connector at the specified speed.

Record the maximum force value during the extraction process.

Repeated testing:

Repeat plugging and unplugging multiple times (such as 10 times), and record the pulling force for each time.

Data analysis:

Calculate the average, maximum, and minimum values of the pull-out force.

Evaluate the durability and consistency of connectors.

5. Judgment criteria
Minimum pull-out force: It is usually required that the pull-out force be not less than the specified value (such as 5N) to ensure that the connector has sufficient holding force.

Maximum pulling force: It is usually required that the pulling force does not exceed the specified value (such as 20N) to ensure convenient operation for users.

Consistency: After multiple insertions and removals, the pulling force should remain stable without significant changes.

6. Improvement measures
Optimize contact design: Adjust the shape and material of the connector contact pieces to improve retention.

Add locking mechanism: Improve the locking design of connectors (such as buckles and threads) to enhance retention.

Material selection: Choose materials with high elasticity or high friction coefficient to improve retention performance.

Surface treatment: Coating the contact surface (such as gold plating, silver plating) to reduce friction and improve durability.

7. Common standards
IEC 60512: Testing standard for electronic device connectors.

EIA-364-13: Standard for testing the insertion and extraction force of electronic connectors.

GB/T 5095: Chinese Electronic Equipment Connector Testing Standard.

8. Precautions
Test consistency: Ensure that the pulling speed and direction are consistent for each test.

Cleaning and maintenance: Regularly clean connectors and testing fixtures to avoid contamination that may affect test results.

Environmental simulation: Consider the impact of environmental factors such as temperature and humidity on the pull-out force.

Safe operation: Avoid pulling out too quickly during testing to prevent connector damage or personal injury.

Through the pull-out force test, the mechanical performance of the connector can be evaluated to ensure that it has sufficient holding force in actual use, while avoiding excessive pull-out force that may cause difficulties for users to operate, meeting design and application requirements.
