Label wiping

Wipe the label with a cloth dipped in reagent, and the label should still be clear, complete, and flat

Label wiping test is a testing method used to evaluate the durability and wear resistance of labels, mainly applied to medical devices, household appliances, industrial equipment and other products. The purpose is to ensure that the label remains clear, intact, and flat during use (such as cleaning, disinfection, or exposure to chemical reagents), thereby avoiding information loss or misunderstanding. The following are the key points of the label wiping experiment:

1. Test purpose
Evaluate the durability of labels after wiping or contact with chemical reagents.

Ensure that label information (such as identification, warning, instructions, etc.) remains clear, complete, and flat during use.

2. Testing standards
Label wiping experiments are usually conducted according to the following standards:

ISO 11607: Durability testing of labels for medical device packaging.

ASTM D3691: Chemical resistance test for printed materials.

IEC 60417: Durability testing of graphical symbols for equipment use.

The specific standards may vary depending on the product type and application field.

3. Testing methods
Reagent selection:

Select reagents based on the actual usage environment, such as:

Water, alcohol, isopropanol (for cleaning).

Disinfectants (such as sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide).

Other chemical reagents (such as oil, acid, alkali).

Wiping tool:

Use a cloth or cotton ball dipped in reagents.

Wiping frequency:

Usually 10, 50, or 100 times, the specific number of times is determined according to standards or customer requirements.

Wiping force:

Apply the prescribed force (such as 2N or 5N) to ensure consistency of testing conditions.

4. Qualification assessment
The label should meet the following requirements after wiping:

Clear: Text, symbols, and graphics should be clear and distinguishable.

Complete: The label should not come off, tear, or delaminate.

Flatness: Labels should not wrinkle, curl, or curl edges.

If the label still meets the above requirements after wiping, it is judged as qualified.

5. Influencing factors
Label material: The chemical resistance and wear resistance of the material directly affect the test results.

Printing process: The adhesion and durability of printing ink have a significant impact on the clarity of labels.

Adhesive performance: The strength and chemical resistance of the adhesive determine whether the label is easily peeled off.

Reagent type: Different reagents may have different effects on the label.

6. Precautions
Before testing, ensure that the label is completely dry and firmly attached.

The testing environment should meet standard requirements such as temperature and humidity.

The test results should be comprehensively evaluated based on specific application scenarios.

7. Application scope
Medical devices: labels for surgical instruments and in vitro diagnostic equipment.

Identification labels for household appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators.

Industrial equipment: warning labels for motors and control cabinets.

Summary: Label wiping test is an important testing method for evaluating the durability and wear resistance of labels. By simulating the wiping or contact with chemical reagents in actual use, it ensures that the labels remain clear, intact, and flat during use, thereby avoiding information loss or misunderstanding.
