Reference standards

GB/T 9341-2008;
ISO 178:2010

1、 Bending test standard
GB/T 9341-2008: Chinese National Standard, specifies the method for determining the bending performance of plastics, and is applicable to the bending performance testing of materials such as plastic sheets and rods.
ISO 178:2010: International standard, which is basically consistent with the technical content of GB/T 9341-2008, but emphasizes global universality.

2、 Testing method
Three point bending method: Place the plastic sample on two support points, with the loading point located at the center of the sample. As the loading force increases, observe the deformation of the specimen until it fails, and record the maximum load value.
Four point bending method: The specimen is placed on two support points, and the two loading points are evenly distributed between the support points to generate uniform bending stress in the middle area of the specimen.

3、 Sample requirements
According to the GB/T 9341-2008 standard, the recommended sample length is 80mm ± 2mm, width is 10.0mm ± 0.2mm, and thickness is 4.0mm ± 0.2mm.
The deviation between the thickness and the average thickness within the middle one-third of the length of the sample should not exceed 2%, and the deviation between the width and the average value should not exceed 3%. The cross-section of the sample should be rectangular and without chamfers.

4、 Experimental equipment
Commonly used plastic tensile testing machines or universal testing machines are equipped with corresponding fixtures and sensors to accurately measure the deformation and load values of the specimen during the application of force.

5、 Experimental steps
The experiment should be conducted in the designated environment. If there are no relevant standards, the most suitable environment can be selected from GB/T2918.
Measure the width and thickness of the middle of the sample accurately to a certain extent, and calculate the average thickness of a group of samples, excluding samples that do not meet the deviation requirements.
Adjust the span according to the following formula: L=(16 ± 1) h, where L is the length of the span between the supports and h is the average thickness of the specimen.
Set the test speed according to the standards of the tested material. If there are no relevant standards, make the bending strain rate as close as possible to 1%/min.
Place the specimen symmetrically on two supports and apply force at the center of the span. Record the applied force and corresponding deflection during the test process. If conditions permit, use an automatic recording device to obtain a complete stress-strain curve graph.

6、 Result calculation
The bending stress, bending strain, deflection corresponding to bending strain, bending modulus, and other results can be calculated through experimental data.
For example, the bending modulus Ef is the ratio of the difference in stress to the corresponding strain difference, usually calculated by taking the stress difference corresponding to strains ε f1=0.0005 and ε f2=0.0025.
