LED module performance testing

IEC 62717; GB/T 24823 LED Module Performance Testing

LED module performance testing is an important testing method for evaluating the performance of LED modules (such as LED light strips, LED panels, etc.), mainly based on IEC 62717 and GB/T 24823 standards. The following is a detailed explanation about the performance testing of LED modules:

1. Overview of Testing Standards

(1) IEC 62717

Full name: IEC 62717 "LED modules for general lighting - Performance requirements".

Scope of application: Suitable for performance testing of LED modules for general lighting.

Main content: including performance indicators such as luminous flux, luminous efficiency, color temperature, color rendering index, lifespan, electrical characteristics, etc.

(2) GB/T 24823

Full name: GB/T 24823 "Performance Requirements for LED Modules for General Lighting".

Scope of application: Suitable for performance testing of LED modules for general lighting in the Chinese market.

Main content: Similar to IEC 62717, including performance indicators such as luminous flux, luminous efficiency, color temperature, color rendering index, lifespan, and electrical characteristics.

2. Main testing items

(1) Luminous flux

Definition: The total amount of light emitted by an LED module, measured in lumens (lm).

Test method: Use an integrating sphere and a photometer to measure the luminous flux of the LED module.

(2) Light effect

Definition: The ratio of luminous flux to input power of an LED module, measured in lumens per watt (lm/W).

Testing method: Measure the luminous flux and input power of the LED module, and calculate the luminous efficiency.

(3) Color temperature

Definition: The color characteristics of light emitted by LED modules, measured in Kelvin (K).

Test method: Use a colorimeter to measure the color temperature of the LED module.

(4) Color rendering index (CRI)

Definition: The indicator of the ability of LED modules to reproduce the color of objects, ranging from 0 to 100.

Testing method: Use a spectral radiometer to measure the spectral distribution of LED modules and calculate the color rendering index.

(5) Lifespan

Definition: The time it takes for an LED module to operate under rated conditions until the luminous flux decays to 70% of its initial value.

Testing method: Evaluate the lifespan of LED modules through accelerated lifespan testing or actual lifespan testing.

(6) Electrical characteristics

Input voltage: The rated input voltage of the LED module.

Input current: The rated input current of the LED module.

Power factor: The ratio of active power to apparent power of an LED module.

Harmonic distortion: The proportion of harmonic components in the input current of LED modules.

(7) Thermal characteristics

Junction temperature: The temperature of LED chips, which affects the performance and lifespan of LED modules.

Thermal resistance: The thermal conductivity characteristics of LED modules.

3. Testing equipment

Integral sphere: used for measuring luminous flux and luminous efficiency.

Photometer: used to measure light output.

Colorimeter: used to measure color temperature and color rendering index.

Power analyzer: used to measure power factor and harmonic distortion.

Thermal imaging instrument: used to measure junction temperature and thermal resistance.

Lifetime testing equipment: used to evaluate the lifespan of LED modules.

4. Corporate Responsibility

(1) Product Design

Optimize LED module design to improve light efficiency, color rendering index, and lifespan.

Choose high-quality LED chips and driver circuits to reduce harmonic distortion.

(2) Compliance testing

Ensure product compliance with IEC 62717 and GB/T 24823 standards through LED module performance testing.

Prepare complete technical documents, including test reports, design drawings, etc.

(3) Labels and identification

Label performance parameters on the product, such as luminous flux, luminous efficiency, color temperature, color rendering index, etc.

Provide instructions for use, including applicable conditions, safety precautions, etc.

5. Summary

LED module performance testing is an important method for evaluating the performance of LED modules used in general lighting. According to IEC 62717 and GB/T 24823 standards, it covers indicators such as luminous flux, luminous efficiency, color temperature, color rendering index, lifespan, and electrical characteristics. Enterprises need to optimize product design, ensure product compliance with relevant standards through performance testing, fulfill compliance responsibilities, and enhance product quality and market competitiveness.
