On December 15, 2025, the EU Amazon officially announced that internet connected wireless devices sold on the EU Amazon platform must comply with the EN 18031 series standards (based on the authorization law (EU) 2022/30 accompanying the RED directive), which will be enforced from August 1, 2025. Non compliant products will be taken down and face penalties.
01 Interpretation of New Regulations
Amazon EU Station will strengthen the compliance audit from now on. All radio devices (such as Wi ‑ Fi routers, smart appliances, mobile phones, wearable devices, payment terminals, etc.) that communicate directly/indirectly via the Internet need to provide the EN 18031 certification compliance statement (DoC) and technical documents. Products that fail to pass the certification are restricted from sale or off the shelf.
02 Compliance Path and Key Processes
1. Determination of applicable sub criteria:
According to the product functions, the corresponding 1/2/3 sub standards are determined, and high-risk devices (such as children/payment devices) need to be evaluated by the notified body (NB).
2. Technical rectification:
Disable default password and enforce strong password policy;
Upgrade encryption protocol to TLS 1.3+and disable weak suites;
Deploy security update mechanisms (anti rollback) and vulnerability management processes;
Children's devices require hardware level parental control, and payment devices require multiple authentication and tamper proof design.
3. Compliance assessment:
Ordinary devices can self declare (DoC), and technical documents need to be kept for 10 years;
Any violation of restrictive clauses (such as lack of parental control or single security updates) requires NB evaluation and certification.
4. Platform submission materials:
Upload DoC, test reports, certification certificates (if applicable), and ensure that the labels/instructions contain compliance markings.
