The new version of AS/NZS 3112:2025 standard was released on November 21, 2025, replacing the 2017 version of AS/NZS 3112 and its 2021 revisions. The 2017 version is still valid, but will be revoked on November 21, 2027.

The new version of AS/NZS 3112:2025 was released on November 21, 2025 and it supersedes the 2017 edition of AS/NZS 3112 and its 2021 revision. The 2017 edition remains valid but will be withdrawn on November 21, 2027.

 

The major changes in the new edition (2025) are as follows:

 

The newly added socket requires additional protective measures to prevent contact with live parts through the socket, such as using protective doors (shutters) or covering devices.

Addition requirements for socket-outlets with additional protection to restrict access to live parts via aperture sets.

■ Added the category of "sockets with clamping or locking devices", usually used in situations where it is necessary to prevent accidental disconnection of the plug, such as industrial equipment or medical devices.

Inclusion of new class of socket-outlet as defined.

Add new classification requirements for sockets and refine the classification standards for sockets: ELV plug sockets, protective plugs, plugs and devices containing plug parts, sockets with additional protection, etc.

Addition of requirements for new classification of socket.

Add requirements for insulation puncture terminals or connection devices.

Addition of New Zealand requirements for insulation piercing terminals or connecting devices.

■ Pull out force test for newly added plugs and sockets with clamping or locking devices.

Additional withdrawal force test for plug and sockets with clamping or locking.

The detachable connection between newly added equipment and plugs shall not use plugs defined in IEC TR 60083 or AS/NZS 3112.

Exclusion of use of defined plug pins for detachable connection.

 

Clearly define the safety requirements for detachable plugs, which have no exposed live parts and meet the requirements for electric shock protection.

Clarification of access to live parts requirements.

Add additional requirements for the detachable plug section, including devices with plug sections, without evaluating plugs from other countries.

Additional requirements for detachable plug portions.

Add a requirement for single spring assisted contact strength testing to evaluate the pressure drop of clamping components under temperature cycling, in order to ensure safe and reliable electrical performance.

Addition of requirements for single spring-assisted contact strength test.
