To align with EU regulations, the Republic of Moldova amended Law No. 235/2011 on Certification and Conformity Assessment on August 28, 2025, specifically targeting Article 31 of the law. The amendment introduces automatic recognition for certain EU-certified products and is scheduled to take effect on February 28, 2026.

According to the revised Article 31, radio equipment, electrical equipment, and electronic equipment that have undergone the conformity assessment procedure by an EU notified body, meet the requirements of EU directives, and bear the CE marking along with an EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC) will be eligible for sale in the Moldovan market without undergoing any additional national conformity assessment procedures.

It is expected that this regulatory change will simplify market access for European manufacturers and reduce the administrative burden on Moldovan importers. Previously, even if products already complied with EU safety and performance standards, they still required repeated inspection or certification procedures upon arrival in Moldova. The new measures eliminate these redundant steps, lower costs, and expedite the time-to-market for compliant products.

The authorities emphasized that market regulation continues. Moldovan enforcement agencies will retain the right to verify documents and inspect products post-market entry to prevent fraudulent or non-compliant imports. However, equipment bearing a valid CE mark will benefit from streamlined import procedures.

The Moldovan government views this revision as part of its broader strategy to align national regulations with EU standards and support economic integration under the Joint Agreement and the China-EU Free Trade Agreement commitments. Industry stakeholders welcome the reform, anticipating it will enhance competitiveness, improve product supply, and create a more predictable trade environment.

The reform is expected to take effect early in 2026. Companies are advised to prepare for the updated compliance framework and ensure that eligible EU-certified products have appropriate documentation.
