On October 1st local time, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that due to the interruption of US government funding, the agency has placed 1044 employees, accounting for 81% of its total workforce, on "vacation" and suspended most of its normal operations.
Cause:
According to Xinhua News Agency, due to the failure of the US Senate to pass a new temporary funding bill before federal government funds are exhausted, the federal government has once again "shut down" after nearly seven years since midnight Eastern Time on October 1st.
On the morning of that day, the US Senate rejected a Republican proposed temporary funding bill, shattering hopes of quickly ending the federal government shutdown. In the vote, only three Democratic senators supported the Republican proposal to extend federal funding until the end of November for the temporary appropriations bill, with a total of 55 votes in favor, failing to reach the required 60 votes for passage.
Affected by the government shutdown, it is estimated that approximately 750000 federal employees, in addition to those providing essential services, will be on leave. Some public services may be suspended or delayed, and economic data releases will also be affected. In addition, a spokesperson for the Governor's Office of New York State stated that the Statue of Liberty torch may be "completely extinguished".
The agency stated that it will cease answering consumer complaints and consultation calls, suspend consumer protection and local competition enforcement. In addition, the approval of new device authorizations will be suspended.
As a result, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States has temporarily suspended operations, and all issuance of FCCID certifications has been suspended during this period. This suspension is a force majeure event, and the specific time for resuming operations will depend on further official notification from the FCC.
