The application fields of materials such as PC, PC fiber, PC/ABS are very wide, such as LED size frames, mobile phone surgery, computer casings, and State Grid meter casings. Products may have screws or glue applied, which may induce internal stress cracking in PC and PC alloy materials, resulting in a high defect rate.
PC internal stress cracking test
The time from the immersion of unannealed injection molded parts with screws in glacial acetic acid solvent at room temperature to the appearance of cracks is recorded as the stress cracking time.
Example of internal stress cracking testing method:
Acetic acid soaking method: Fully immerse PC products with screw grooves or columns in ice acetic acid at 25 ℃ for 30 seconds. Remove and air dry before inspecting the surface. Carefully inspect the appearance. If there are small and dense cracks, it indicates the presence of internal stress here. The more cracks there are, the greater the internal stress.
Because various products require different specifications, the specific soaking time, required concentration of acetic acid, and whether small cracks are acceptable (whether such products are considered qualified or not) still depend on the customer's specific requirements for a certain product.
testing procedure
① Surface stress testing:
(1) Pour acetic acid (glacial acetic acid) into a glass container
(2) Completely immerse plastic products in acetic acid
(3) The time is 30 seconds (or other duration)
(4) After 30 seconds, use a clamp to remove the sample and immediately rinse it with clean water (tap water is sufficient) to check for whitening and cracks on the surface of the sample.
Evaluation requirements: There should be no cracking, and a slight whitening of the surface is allowed.
② Internal stress testing:
(1) Dry the samples that have passed the surface stress test and immerse them completely in acetic acid
(2) The time is 2 minutes (or other duration)
(3) After 2 minutes, take out the sample and immediately rinse it with clean water (tap water is sufficient) to check for whitening and cracks in the sample.
Evaluation requirements: There must be no fracture phenomenon, and slight cracks and surface whitening are allowed at the inlay.
