preface:

In various electronic, communication, automotive and other devices, connectors serve as important interface elements and undertake the important task of transmitting signals and electricity.

1、 Why do we need to conduct connector instantaneous break testing to ensure their quality and reliability?

Due to long-term use of various devices and factors such as vibration, impact, and temperature, these connectors may experience transient breakage, which can affect the normal operation of the equipment and even pose safety hazards.

2、 What is instantaneous interruption

Transient interruption refers to the phenomenon of signal interruption caused by various factors in the connector interface. Generally speaking, a momentary break is brief, but it can still cause abnormalities in the transmission signal of the device, so it is necessary to detect and verify the momentary break of the connector. Connector instantaneous break test refers to the operation of interrupting and restoring a connector under certain conditions, observing its working status and performance, in order to evaluate the reliability and quality of the connector.

3、 The principle of instantaneous interruption

Due to the absolute motion of the connector, the contact pressure of the contact part will be affected in dynamic application environments such as vibration, impact, and collision. The contact resistance will change with the value, direction, and time of the contact, and the contact resistance state at this time is called "dynamic contact resistance".

Due to the fact that this change occurs in a short period of time due to the influence of external dynamic environment, the contact resistance of the electrical connector may be squeezed and reduced, or may be pulled and increased, even leading to connection interruption and serious consequences.

4、 Reasons for instantaneous disconnection of connectors

1. Equipment vibration or impact;

2. The service life of the connector has expired or it is severely worn out;

3. The gap between the plug or socket is too large or mismatched;

4. Structural deformation or thermal expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes;

5. Poor environmental conditions lead to problems such as corrosion and oxidation.

5、 Test method for instantaneous breakage of connectors

01 Resistance testing method

The resistance testing method is to use a multimeter to test the two ends of a connector, add electrodes to each end, and observe the test results.

If the resistance value is very large, close to infinity, it indicates that the connector should not have any transient breaking problems. If the resistance value is small, it indicates that there is a certain problem with the connector and further inspection is needed.

02 Short circuit testing method

The short-circuit testing method involves disconnecting the circuit on one of the electrodes when electrodes are added to both ends of the connector, and observing the test results. If the test result shows a short circuit, it indicates that the connector has a transient issue.

03 Plug and unplug testing method

The plug-in test method involves inserting and unplugging the connector into and out of the socket more than ten times, observing whether there are any adverse reactions or momentary disconnections in its connection. If the connector can be stably connected without obvious instantaneous disconnection, it indicates that the quality of the connector is reliable.
