On March 10, 2024, the mandatory implementation of network security testing requirements in Brazil officially began. The ANATEL Act n º 2436 includes password requirements, defense requirements against unauthorized access attempts, and policies requiring suppliers to develop coordinated vulnerability disclosure policies and release software/firmware updates to fix security vulnerabilities.

The following CPE products must undergo network security testing when applying for a new or renewed ANATEL application:

1) Cable modem;

2) XDSL modem;

3) Optical network equipment/optical network terminals;

4) Routers or modems used for fixed wireless access;

5) Routers or modems used for fixed broadband access through satellites;

6) Wireless router or access point;

Regarding the submission time of the network security test report, ANATEL explains as follows:

1. For new or renewed applications approved by OCD before March 9, 2024, the network security test report may not be submitted temporarily. The applicant can declare a commitment to submit the test report to ANATEL before July 6, 2024. If not submitted by the deadline, the certificate will be suspended and the sold products will be recalled from the market;

Starting from March 10, 2024, all new approvals or renewals of the above CPE related equipment, without exception, require the submission of a network security test report to obtain ANATEL approval.
