The Korea National Institute of Technical Standards (KATS) has announced an important change, which will simplify the KC certification system for some household appliance products starting from April 1, 2026.

 

The core changes in the institutional adjustments of the revised Announcement No. 2026-95 and the Implementation Rules of the Safety Management Law for Electrical Appliances and Daily Necessities are as follows:

 

Cancel mandatory factory inspections: Under the new system, enterprises applying for certification will no longer require time-consuming and labor-intensive on-site factory audits.

Simplified certification process and shortened cycle: Removing the factory inspection process will significantly improve certification efficiency and significantly shorten the time required for products to enter the Korean market.

Exemption from annual review: Enterprises no longer need to deal with annual reviews, including factory audits and supervision sampling, thereby reducing the subsequent compliance burden. Regulatory focus will be more on the design and testing compliance of the product itself.

 

 

Five major categories of products affected

 

This certification system adjustment specifically involves the following five types of household appliance products:

 

Vacuum cleaners: including vacuum cleaners, water suction vacuum cleaners, steam vacuum cleaners, and high-pressure cleaning machines.

Electric washing machines and dehydrators: covering various types of electric washing machines, independent dehydrators, and integrated washing and drying machines.

Electric drying machines: including rotary electric dryers, hand dryers, and clothing care machines.

Microwave oven: specifically refers to products that use frequencies between 300MHz and 30GHz.

Toilet electrical equipment: such as automatic cleaning toilets, electric toilets, and sewage inhalers.

 

Before the new regulations come into effect, products that have obtained the original "safety certification" or are applying for relevant qualifications will have their original certification results or application status automatically shifted, and will be considered as having completed the "safety confirmation" application or in progress.
