In the field of emergency lighting, tradition and innovation are constantly colliding to create new problems. In this issue, we focus on Emergency lighting, Dynamic/Adaptive signage, and Decision No. 2192 to provide an in-depth analysis of relevant certification issues.

Traditional static emergency lighting fixtures are covered by EN/IEC 60598-2-22. However, some manufacturers are now at the forefront of innovation, developing emergency lighting products labeled as dynamic/adaptive displays. In addition to the traditional static mode, these products also have further functions such as displaying directional signs, such as emphasizing directional arrows with flashing effects or crossing out signs with a red cross. Unfortunately, this innovative situation has not yet been taken into account in EN/IEC 60598-1.

Can dynamic/adaptive emergency lights with static mode options obtain CB or ENEC certification?

A does not accept that in all lighting conditions, the lighting fixtures must comply with IEC/EN 60598-2-22, and the standard does not include adaptive mode evaluation.

Can the additional dynamic/adaptive functions be covered by the validation program developed by the testing company attached to the CB or ENEC report?

A cannot, but it is possible to apply for the testing company's own certificate/project.

Should additional instructions be displayed on the testing report and certificate?

A does not accept. The current testing report and certificate system do not currently support adding additional explanations to reflect these dynamic/adaptive functions.
