Important Update | Starting from 2025, South Korean USB-C devices must comply with KC-EMC standards!

Korean KC has issued a notice stating that products with USB-C port functionality require USB-C port KC-EMC certification in order to obtain KC-EMC certification for the entire machine. The notice will be implemented from February 14, 2025, and laptops from April 1, 2026.
1、 Applicable products
Mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, earphones, portable game consoles, portable speakers, e-books, keyboards, mice, portable navigation devices, laptops, earbuds, etc.
The above products with USB-C ports require USB-C port certification in order to obtain KC certification for the entire machine. This notice will be implemented from February 14, 2025, and laptops from April 1, 2026.
2、 Regulatory Equipment Catalog (Terminal Equipment Category)

2. Port authentication specification requirements
① As shown in Figure 1, the width of the outer skin opening is 8.34 millimeters, with an error range of -0.02 millimeters and+0.06 millimeters.
② As shown in Figure 2, the height of the outer skin opening should be 2.56 ± 0.04 millimeters.
③ As shown in Figure 3C and Figure 4C, the width of the Reception tongue is 6.690 millimeters, and the error range should be -0.055 millimeters and+0.045 millimeters.
④ As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the length of the Reception tongue should be 4.45 ± 0.10 millimeters.
⑤ As shown in Figure 3, if there is a conductive shell, the signal contact length of the data light (excluding power and ground) should be
3. 50 ± 0.15 millimeters, the power and ground contacts should be 0.50 ± 0.20 millimeters longer than the signal contacts of the data light.
⑥ As shown in Figure 4, if there is a non-conductive shell or no shell, the signal contact length of the data lamp (excluding power and ground) should be 3.45 ± 0.10 millimeters, the power contact should be 0.20 ± 0.10 millimeters longer than the signal contact of the data lamp, and the ground contact should be 0.35 ± 0.10 millimeters longer than the power contact.
⑦ As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the width of each signal contact of Receptacle should be 0.25 ± 0.04 millimeters.
3、 Precautions
1. Timeliness: KC-EMC certification has timeliness, and manufacturers need to regularly update the certificate to ensure product compliance.
2. Compliance: Manufacturers need to ensure that their products meet KC-EMC's requirements throughout their entire lifecycle, including design, production, sales, and other stages.
3. Market access: Obtaining KC-EMC certification is one of the necessary conditions for products to enter the Korean market, and manufacturers should fully understand and comply with relevant regulations and standards.
In summary, the notice issued by South Korea regarding the requirement for KC-EMC certification for USB-C ports has put forward clear electromagnetic compatibility requirements for related products entering the South Korean market. Manufacturers should actively respond to and comply with this regulation to ensure product compliance and market competitiveness.
