Z-Wave is an emerging short distance wireless communication technology based on radio frequency, low cost, low power consumption, high reliability, and suitable for networks. The working frequency band is 908.42MHz (USA)~868.42MHz (Europe), using FSK (BFSK/GFSK) modulation method, with a data transmission rate of 9.6 kbps. The effective coverage range of the signal is 30m indoors and can exceed 100m outdoors.
The advantages of Z-Wave technology
Low cost:
The home market mainly values the low cost, network security, and ease of use of technology applications. Z-Wave has always focused on the home control application market, with clear application areas and simple structure. Its low cost nature is mainly attributed to three aspects: firstly, Z-Wave has low development costs. It adopts integrated methods to integrate multiple devices on a single chip, greatly reducing development costs; The second is the design and installation of low-cost. On the basis of meeting household control, the design of the Z-Wave system does not need to be as large as ZigBee, which objectively ensures its low cost; The third reason is low usage cost, that is, low power consumption. Due to the low communication volume of Z-Wave technology in control and information exchange, its bandwidth used is only 9.6kb/s, which greatly reduces the operating power consumption of household facilities and is an important factor in low cost.
Good coverage and stability:
Coverage and stability directly affect the success or failure of home wireless control technology applications. Z-Wave has strong coverage ability, which is mainly attributed to two aspects: firstly, it uses small data format transmission. Compared with other wireless technologies in the same category, Z-Wave signals with relatively low transmission frequencies (868MHz or 908MHz) have stronger diffraction ability, and can bypass obstacles to achieve control over related products. The second is Z-Wave's support for mesh network topology, which integrates a dynamic routing mechanism that allows each Z-Wave device to retransmit signals from one device to another, ensuring highly reliable transmission coverage throughout the entire home.
In terms of stability, Z-Wave is a bidirectional wireless communication technology. This technology does not use a common frequency band for transmission like other radio frequency technologies. Instead, it adopts a bidirectional response transmission mechanism, compressed frame format, and a random inverse algorithm to reduce distortion and interference, ensuring stable transmission; At the same time, Z-Wave's dynamic routing function and mesh topology can effectively improve signal transmission efficiency, and point-to-point communication networks will not be affected by a fault on one node, further ensuring the stability of the application; In addition, in order to further enhance the security and reliability performance of technology applications, Z-Wave technology will also consider providing encryption measures. The success of this move will greatly expand the application of Z-Wave technology in smart homes.
Flexible and convenient operation:
In home applications, users not only care about the stability of the system, but also about the flexibility and convenience of operation. At this point, Z-Wave has obvious advantages: Z-Wave integrates various devices such as microcontrollers, analog-to-digital converters, serial peripheral interface SPI, etc. on a small single chip, which is easy to integrate into products with strict size requirements. Moreover, the compatibility and interoperability of the products are good, making it more convenient for layout planning, design, and extension; Meanwhile, due to the adoption of unified specifications and standards, the operation and usage of Z-Wave products are basically the same. Whether it is a lighting control system or a security control product, the usage method is simple adding and removing codes, and then network operation can be achieved. The operation for triggering induction between different products is also extremely simple, and it can be completely resolved in just one or two minutes.
