In August 2023, the European Union's RASFF reported a total of 18 cases of non-compliance with food contact materials. Fifteen cases came from China, one from Germany, one from Serbia, and one from Italy. A total of 6 cases were due to primary aromatic amine migration violations, 4 cases were due to formaldehyde or melamine migration violations, 4 cases were due to unauthorized use of bamboo fibers, 2 cases were due to total migration violations, 1 case was due to high isothiazolinone content violations, and 1 case was due to lead migration violations.

The main cases reported are as follows:

LCS suggestion:
It is recommended to pay attention to EU regulatory requirements, and pay special attention to the migration of primary aromatic amines, total migration, formaldehyde, melamine, and unauthorized use of substances. Paper straw materials should pay attention to the content of isothiazolinone, and enterprises should pay attention to the quality issues and compliance of the materials, and strictly follow regulatory requirements for product quality management.
