Malaysia SIRIM Extends Provisional Type Approval for IPv6 Cellular Devices Without Wi Fi Interface Again
On July 13, 2023, the Malaysian Institute of Standards and Industrial Research (SIRIM) issued notice SQASI/CMCS/1/23/0004.
This announcement announced the extension of the temporary type approval application for IPv6 cellular devices without Wi Fi interfaces for another year. Therefore, before July 10, 2024, the maximum validity period for new applications and updates of Compliance Certificates (CoCs) for all IPv6 cellular devices without Wi Fi interfaces is one year.
The announcement will take effect from July 10, 2023, until SIRIM notifies otherwise.
Japan
Japan Revises Regulations on Radio Equipment
The Ministry of the Interior and Communications of Japan has issued TBT notifications G/TBT/N/JPN/775 and G/TBT/N/JPN/775/Corr.1 through the WTO, proposing to revise the regulations on wireless local area network radio equipment systems (in the 2.4gz band). The reason for this modification is to update the 2.4GHz band using a wireless local area network system.
The main content of the amendment is:
Project revision;
Any communication system that is unidirectional, single, half duplex, or duplex;
Adjusting DSS, amplitude modulation, phase modulation, frequency modulation, pulse modulation, or any combination of these, as well as any modulation of OFDM;
The allowable deviation of antenna power is -80% to+20%.
Proposed effective date: October 2023, proposed adoption date: October 2023.
Singapore
Singapore to shut down 3G network
Starting from July 31, 2024, Singapore operators M1, Singtel, and StarHub announced that they will shut down all 3G services, including voice, messaging, and data, which are no longer widely used in Singapore. After the shutdown of 3G networks, mobile operators plan to reuse the freed up spectrum to improve 5G services.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia will standardize charging ports for mobile phones and electronic devices to USB Type-C
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has decided to standardize the charging ports for mobile phones and electronic devices starting from January 1, 2025. USB Type-C will serve as the only standardized connector.
The Saudi Organization for Standards, Metrology, and Quality (SASO) and the Committee on Communications, Space, and Technology (CST) have issued the latest announcement announcing the mandatory phase of unifying charging ports for mobile phones and electronic devices in the Saudi market.
The enforcement of this decision will be implemented in two stages as follows:

Most of the affected electronic devices mentioned above are controlled by the SASO IECEE Accreditation Certificate (SIRC), and other products must also apply for mandatory product conformity certificates (P-CoCs) and shipping conformity certificates (S-CoCs) issued by SASO approved conformity assessment agencies.
