NOM-032-ENER-2013 sets maximum power consumption limits for electronic devices and appliances that consume energy in standby mode, such as microwave ovens, printers, and some televisions. By setting these power consumption limits, NOM-032 aims to reduce energy waste.

This article outlines the scope and compliance guidelines of NOM-032-ENER-2013, allowing you to confidently sell electronic devices in the Mexican market.

Purpose of NOM-032-ENER-2013

NOM-032-ENER-2013 has established key guidelines for various electronic devices, with a focus on reducing energy consumption in standby mode. The standard also specifies the types of energy efficiency labels required for these products.

NOM-032-ENER-2013 is suitable for various electronic devices and covers a range of products including:

Digital TV adapter

Decoder for cable, satellite or Internet Protocol (IP) TV signals

Image copying devices such as printers, scanners, copiers, and multifunctional devices

Microwave oven

Independent audio playback device, whether separable or not, used for one or more audio functions

Home theater video playback devices such as DVD and Blu ray players

TVs equipped with LED, LCD, plasma (PDP), and organic LED (OLED) displays

These projects are designated for single-phase power sources, ranging from 100 volts to 277 volts alternating current (AC), with frequencies of 50 hertz or 60 hertz.

This standard does not apply to the following equipment:

Equipment covered by other Mexican energy efficiency standards

Devices that require an external power source to operate

Copiers, printers, and multifunctional devices declared by manufacturers to be heavier than 15 kilograms

Highly specialized equipment that is not directly sold to the public and used for specific contractual purposes

NOM-032-ENER-2013 Key Requirements

Standby power consumption limit

In order to minimize energy waste in standby mode, NOM-032-ENER-2013 defines strict power consumption limits for various electronic devices, ensuring minimal power consumption during inactive use (i.e. standby mode).

The following are the power consumption limits for specific devices:

Label requirements:

Energy efficiency labels provide consumers with clear and accessible information about the energy consumption of electronic devices. NOM 032 requires coverage of:

Location and durability: The label must be affixed to the product packaging and remain intact and readable until the end consumer purchases it. They should be able to withstand environmental factors such as handling and shelf storage, without falling off or fading.

Tag content:

Energy Efficiency Rating: Indicates standby power consumption, measured in watts.

Compliance statement: Clearly indicate that the device complies with the requirements of NOM-032-ENER-2013.

Visibility and readability: Labels must be designed to be easy to read, using contrasting colors (such as black text on a white or yellow background) and font sizes that are easy to read.

Testing and Compliance:

In order to verify the compliance of standby power consumption limits, NOM-032-ENER-2013 specifies strict testing procedures:

testing environment

The test must be conducted under controlled environmental conditions, including standard room temperature of 23 ° C ± 5 ° C. Test indoor air velocity: less than 0.5 meters per second

Equipment specifications

Power analyzer: an instrument used to measure and analyze various aspects of power flow within a system, which must be able to perform true RMS measurements to accurately capture standby power consumption. RMS (Root Mean Square) is a mathematical concept used to calculate the effective value of a constantly changing signal, such as AC voltage or current

Accuracy standards: The analyzer should follow the set accuracy standards to ensure the reliability and consistency of the results.

test method

Equipment setup: Install and configure the equipment according to the specific requirements of the standard.

Test duration: Clearly specify the length of time required for each test.

Measurement interval: Specify the specific time interval for recording measurement data.

These regulations ensure that all devices are evaluated under uniform conditions and provide reliable data to reflect their energy consumption patterns.
