Usually, in the process of applying for safety certification, the testing agency will provide the enterprise with a list of key components and require the applicant to provide component certificates according to this list. So, which are safety compliant components, which require certificates, and what certificates are required?
Safety components refer to components that directly or indirectly affect the safety performance of a product. Safety performance includes electric shock, excessive temperature, radiation, explosion, mechanical hazards, fire, etc.
The safety components include the following:
Plug, power cord, connector, input interface, internal wire, switch, wiring terminal, current fuse, temperature fuse, fuse resistance, varistor, relay, X capacitor, Y capacitor, PCB, plastic casing, automatic protection device, optocoupler, heat shrink sleeve, Mylar, transformer (including winding wire, skeleton, insulation tape, sleeve, triple insulation wire, and Fanlishui), In addition, plug and socket products also require specifications for copper parts, mainly to confirm the copper content of the copper parts.
Specific certification requirements for components:
The specific certification requirements are determined by the requirements of the region where the entire product is sold. Generally, if the entire product is exported to Europe, So safety compliant components usually require certificates from European NB institutions (NB institutions are known as Notify Body, which is an important technical entity in the EU implementing market access management in accordance with the new method directive. In order to unify and coordinate third-party certification work, on April 25, 1990, the European Community, the European Free Trade Area, CEN, and CENELEC signed an agreement in Brussels to establish the European Testing and Certification Agency (EOTC), We commonly see TUV Rheinland in Germany, TUV South Germany, VDE and DEKRA in Germany, BV in France, BSI in the UK, and so on. In addition, the following materials of European standard products also accept UL certificates from the United States: PCB, internal wire, heat shrink sleeve, Mylar sheet, plastic shell, others are not accepted.
If the product is sold to the United States, when applying for North American certification for the entire machine, such as UL or ETL, safety compliant components only accept American certification.
In summary, the product is sold in a wide range of regions, and the safety compliance certification of other countries or regions needs to be determined based on the local national or regional standards and certification rules. When applying for certification, manufacturers need to pay attention to the certification requirements for components in the overall machine standard, and when developing new products, they need to select components that meet the certification requirements in advance.
