South Korea has released new regulations related to USB-C ports for mobile smart devices with broadcast communication functions, which will be officially enforced from November 6, 2026.


 

This requirement will directly affect the whole machine KC/KCC certification of the in transit project. Please take it seriously and investigate it immediately!


 

1、 Control object


 

The mandatory control object is only the USB-C female socket;

The public head is not within the scope of control.


 

2、 Applicable product scope


 

Mobile intelligent terminals for broadcasting and communication, including mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, earphones, portable game consoles, portable speakers, e-books, keyboards, mice, portable navigation devices, laptops, and earbuds.


 

Regarding the implementation nodes, please note:


 

This technical standard announcement will be applicable from February 14, 2025;

The original KC related USB-C requirements for laptops will be implemented on April 1, 2026;

The latest mandatory implementation time is subject to this notice: November 6, 2026. All applicable products must complete compliance confirmation before this date.


 

3、 Authentication method


 

Certification type: Self Declaration

Declaration can be made using test reports that comply with EN IEC 62680

South Korea only verifies the dimensions of the USB-C socket structure and does not need to complete a complete set of testing projects such as contact and durability from the USB Association

This new regulation will incur certification/testing fees, and ongoing projects need to re evaluate costs and cycles

 


 

4、 USB-C female socket port size specification requirements


 

As shown in Figure 1, the width of the outer skin opening is 8.34 millimeters, with an error range of -0.02 millimeters and+0.06 millimeters.

As shown in Figure 2, the height of the outer skin opening should be 2.56 ± 0.04 millimeters.

3. As shown in Figure 3C and Figure 4C, the width of the Reception tongue is 6.690 millimeters, and the error range should be -0.055 millimeters and+0.045 millimeters.

As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the length of the Reception tongue should be 4.45 ± 0.10 millimeters.

5. As shown in Figure 3, if there is a conductive shell, the signal contact length of the data lamp (excluding power and ground) should be 3.50 ± 0.15 millimeters, and the contact length of the power and ground should be 0.50 ± 0.20 millimeters longer than the signal contact length of the data lamp.

As shown in Figure 4, if there is a non-conductive shell or no shell, the signal contact length of the data lamp (excluding power and ground) should be 3.45 ± 0.10 millimeters, the power contact should be 0.20 ± 0.10 millimeters longer than the signal contact of the data lamp, and the ground contact should be 0.35 ± 0.10 millimeters longer than the power contact.

As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the width of each signal contact of the Receptacle should be 0.25 ± 0.04 millimeters.
