People who work on Japanese websites, import products from Japan, or export wireless products often see three words in their materials: MIC, GITEKI, and TELEC. The supplier said 'this product has TELEC', Amazon's backend requires filling in the 'GITEKI number', and the customs clearance document also states' technical suitability '. It looks like three sets of certifications, but they actually refer to different roles within the same Japanese wireless compliance system.

First, make the conclusion clear: the Japanese market requires technical specifications based on the Radio Wave Law. GITEKI is the certification name and logo, TELEC is one of the common issuing agencies, and MIC is the supervisory and regulatory authority. In daily communication, it is not a problem to call 'doing technology adaptation' as' doing TELEC ', but strictly speaking, they are not two parallel certificates.

1

What do the three names represent

MIC: The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan is responsible for rule making and market supervision, not the issuing company.

GITEKI: derived from the Japanese word for "proof of suitability of technical standards", commonly referred to as "technical suitability" in Chinese. After passing the testing and review of wireless transmission products, it is necessary to affix the technical compatibility mark and label the certification number.

TELEC, also known as Telecom Engineering Center, is one of the registered certification bodies recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. Because it has a high reputation and a large number of certificates issued in the industry, many sellers are accustomed to calling technical certification directly TELEC certification. In fact, authorized institutions such as JQA and UL Japan can also issue similar technical certificates, and there is no distinction in legal effectiveness.

Which products need to be processed

As long as the product has wireless transmission function and is planned to be sold, imported or displayed in Japan, it usually needs to complete technical certification first. Common products include:

Bluetooth category: Bluetooth earphones, speakers, keyboards, remote controls, Bluetooth modules, etc;

Wi Fi category: routers, wireless network cards, smart home modules, wireless cameras, etc;

Other RF categories: cellular modules RFID、 Drones, wireless microphones, remote-controlled toys, etc.

If the product only receives signals without RF transmission function, it generally does not fall within the scope of this mandatory certification. However, it should be noted that having certification for a module does not necessarily mean that the entire machine is problem free. If the antenna, RF peripheral circuit, or installation method of the entire machine is changed, it may still need to be re evaluated or even retested.

Two common authentication modes

Enterprises usually choose two paths based on the shipping method.

One type is suitable for proving a single unit or technical benchmark, suitable for sample and small batch trial sales. Each unit or batch needs to be tested separately, and the certification speed is relatively fast.

Another type is engineering design certification, which involves design certification based on product models. Suitable for large-scale production, long-term shipping, and e-commerce distribution. The certificate corresponds to the model, and subsequent mass production of the same model usually does not require retesting one by one, making it more popular among foreign trade and cross-border enterprises.

What documents are generally required to prepare

Common materials include: certification application form, product specification sheet, English or Japanese instruction manual, circuit schematic, block diagram, PCB layout diagram, BOM list, antenna specifications and testing data, product label diagram, label location diagram, ISO9001 certificate, and prototype used for testing. The number of prototypes is usually prepared according to laboratory requirements, typically 2 to 3 units. Different institutions and products may have slight differences.

5

Process and Time for Handling

The first step is preliminary evaluation. Confirm the product frequency band, power, antenna form, applicable standards, and select the certification mode and issuing authority.

The second step is to submit the materials and prototypes. Submit the technical documents together with the test prototype.

Step three, laboratory testing. Focus on frequency bands, transmission power, stray radiation, EMC, and other related factors. If it is not qualified, it needs to be rectified and retested.

The fourth step is institutional review. Submit the test report and complete set of technical documents to the authorized certification body.

Step five, issue the certificate. After passing the review, obtain the technical suitability certificate.

Step six, mass production labeling. The product body needs to be permanently marked with the technical suitability mark and certification number before it can be cleared and put on the market.

In terms of time, the certification for engineering design is usually 3 to 4 weeks; A single technical adaptation may take about 7 working days, but the actual cycle may be affected by the completeness of data, testing schedule, and rectification situation. Certificates usually do not have a fixed validity period and can be used for a long time as long as the RF hardware, antenna, and model remain unchanged; Once these key components change, they need to be reapplied or evaluated.

6

Several places that are easy to step on

First, the certificate of the module does not mean that the whole machine is exempt from certification. If the antenna or RF circuit of the whole machine is modified, it may still need to be retested.

Secondly, the technology suitability logo cannot be solely affixed to the outer packaging. The Japanese market usually requires permanent labeling on the product itself, which is verified by customs and platforms.

Thirdly, CE and FCC cannot directly replace Japanese technology. The European and American standards are different from the Japanese ARIB system, and European and American certificates cannot be directly used for Japanese access.

Fourthly, Amazon Japan usually requires wireless products to upload GITEKI certificates and certification numbers, and lack of information may result in delisting.

Overall, the core of exporting wireless products to Japan is to comply with the technical specifications under the Radio Wave Law. GITEKI is the system and logo, TELEC is the mainstream issuing agency, and MIC is the regulatory department. Choose TELEC, JQA or other authorized institutions, as long as they are within the scope of legal authorization, the legal effect is the same. Preparing RF evaluations, prototypes, and standardized labeling in advance is more important than struggling with terminology.
