DLC certification

DLC certification is an energy efficiency and performance certification for commercial and industrial LED lighting products launched by the US non-profit organization Design Lights Consortium (DLC), aimed at promoting the popularization of high-efficiency lighting technology, improving building energy efficiency, and providing a "pass" for products that meet standards to enter the North American market.

 

1、 Core information of DLC certification

Nature and Function of Certification

Voluntary certification, but it has actually become an "invisible entry threshold" for the high-end lighting market in North America.
Certified products can be included in the DLC Qualified Product List (QPL), which facilitates the identification of high-quality products by purchasers and qualifies them to apply for energy efficiency subsidies or rebates from utility companies, significantly enhancing market competitiveness.

Applicable product scope
DLC certification mainly covers commercial solid-state lighting products not covered by Energy Star, including:

Road and tunnel lighting
Industrial ceiling lights, floodlights
Wall washer, floodlight
LED tubes and replacement light sources
Solar lighting, full-color dimmable products (added in DLC 6.0)

Certification level

Standard: Meets basic energy efficiency and performance requirements
Premium: Requires higher light efficiency, longer lifespan, and stronger controllability (such as supporting continuous dimming below 10%), and can receive higher subsidies

 

2、 Key technical requirements for DLC certification

In addition, DLC has also launched NLC (Networked Lighting Controls) certification, specifically for intelligent lighting control systems such as Bluetooth ® Mesh, Zigbee and other solutions ensure their interoperability and energy-saving effects in practical applications.

 

3、 DLC certification process (approximately 3-4 weeks)

LM-80 Light Attenuation Test Report (If available, the cycle can be shortened)

Submit application

Register DLC account
Submit materials and make payment on the DLC official website (Standard approximately $500/model, Premium approximately $1000/model)

Review and Listing

Technical review of DLC (approximately 2-3 weeks)
After approval, the product will be included in the QPL list, which can be checked on the official website

Note: DLC certification does not issue paper certificates, only the names listed on the official website shall prevail.

 

4、 DLC 6.0 Latest News (2025-2026)

Standard upgrade: DLC SSL V6.0 has been draft released in April 2025 and is scheduled to officially take effect in October 2026.
Elimination mechanism: Products that have not completed certification by the deadline will be removed from QPL, directly affecting market access.
New Category: Supports emerging categories such as solar lights, amber LED, and full-color adjustable products.
Stricter energy efficiency: Standard level light efficiency increased by 14%, Premium level increased by 12%.
