As people pay more and more attention to food safety, every detail of the food processing environment is highly scrutinized. Any food related enterprise needs to use food grade lighting. It not only ensures the safety of your products and customers, but also helps maintain hygiene standards.

Insufficient light can have a negative impact on workers' production efficiency and affect food safety, as it can hinder good cleaning work. In addition, inappropriate lighting fixtures may also become a source of pollution. Therefore, choosing lighting solutions that provide appropriate illumination, are easy to clean, and have no features that may cause foreign object contamination (such as loose screws, insect corpses, and glass shards) is crucial for food safety.

Food processing plants have different areas, each with different lighting requirements. For example, a food processing plant has outdoor areas, parking lots, employee rest areas, warehouses, refrigeration rooms, production areas, packaging workshops, and shipping docks. Catering restaurants have kitchen areas, loading and unloading dock areas, refrigeration rooms, dining areas, etc. Food retail stores have areas for customers to refrigerate and display at room temperature, as well as receiving and storage areas.

In each area, the selected lighting fixtures and bulbs must meet their illuminance, cleanability, color temperature, energy consumption, dust and water resistance levels, resistance to damage, and (for dining areas) design and aesthetic requirements.

Why choose HACCP product certification (non system) food grade lighting fixtures in Australia?

*Strict standards: Australia has very strict regulations on food safety, and food grade lighting fixtures must comply with a series of hygiene and safety standards.

*Excellent Material: Australian food grade lighting fixtures are usually made of materials such as stainless steel and high-temperature resistant plastic, which are not easy to breed bacteria and are easy to clean.

*Reasonable design: The lighting design meets the special requirements of the food processing environment, avoids shadows, and is easy to clean.

Our testing project (lighting fixtures classified according to "SSZ (Splash or Spill Zone)"), according to STANDARD 3.2.3 FOOD PREMISES AND EQUIPMENT:

Products suitable for SSZ grading: The product is suitable for use in food processing areas such as kitchens, production areas, and processing areas, but not for direct contact with food.

*Light source quality: Test the illuminance, color temperature, color rendering index, glare index, lifespan, etc. of the light source.

For example, in the food ingredient grading and sorting area, a minimum illuminance of 600lx, illuminance of 80 or above, glare index less than or equal to 22, and color temperature greater than 5300K are required. Do not use light sources that emit ultraviolet (UV) radiation in the area where raw meat is sold, as fresh meat may change color when exposed to such light, as UV radiation promotes the formation of myoglobin, resulting in a brown appearance and misleading consumers into believing that the meat is not fresh.

Considering that the cost of completely replacing the entire lighting fixture may exceed the cost of energy savings, it is recommended to choose fixtures with a longer lifespan. It is generally recommended that the L80B50 reach 50000 hours or more.

*Material safety: Check whether the material and structure of the lighting fixtures meet food grade standards and whether there are harmful substances present.

Food grade lighting fixtures are made of materials that are non hygroscopic, moisture-proof, and corrosion-resistant. Corrosive components and damp areas can breed bacteria and microorganisms. Corrosion and other factors can also protect bacteria within its porous structure, hindering effective cleaning.

*Protection level: Test the protection level of the lighting fixture to ensure its stability in harsh environments such as humidity and high temperature.

Suggest IP65 or IK08 or above, with a maximum rated ambient temperature of 40 ℃ or above during normal operation.

*Cleaning performance: Simulate actual usage scenarios and test the difficulty of cleaning the lighting fixtures.

The inner corners must have a large radius, as small radius inner corners are prone to accumulating dust, dirt, grease, and food debris, making it difficult to remove them from such corners. Luminaires used in high ceiling environments such as warehouses should have a smooth surface and a horizontal surface that reduces dust accumulation. They should be designed to facilitate wiping or brushing away dirt, mosquito carcasses, and spider webs.

*Safety regulations: Detect electrical, mechanical, thermal radiation, optical radiation, material heat and fire resistance, etc., and obtain RCM certification.

*Energy saving: Check the energy consumption, light efficiency, etc. of the product.

Note: An important factor affecting the determination of test results is the applicable country/region selected when applying for HACCP product certification, which determines the food regulations and standards to be considered in the country/region, with both common and different provisions.

Choosing Australian food grade lighting fixtures is not only to meet regulatory requirements, but also to ensure food safety and enhance brand image. Our test results will provide you with scientific and objective basis to help you develop and design the most suitable lighting fixtures.
