Update of the IEC 62493 version of the electromagnetic radiation standard for lighting appliances
On June 15, 2022, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) issued the standard IEC62493:2015+AMD1:2022, which is applicable to the assessment of human exposure of lighting appliances to electromagnetic radiation from lighting equipment. The assessment includes the induced internal electric field at frequencies between 20kHz and 10MHz and the specific absorption rate (SAR) around the lighting device at frequencies between 100kHz and 300MHz. It is also a standard that must be assessed for compliance with IEC60598-1:2020.
Compared with the old 2015 version, this A1 version of the standard includes the following major technical changes:
Update the used standard ICNIRP "Guidelines for Limiting Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (1998)" to ICNIRP2020, and introduce the corresponding updated technical requirements.
For conventional LED lamps that fall into the exemption test and are deemed to meet the standard, there is basically no impact. For more details, please contact the LCS specialist of Southern Luxshare Testing.
