EU 5G Wi-Fi products have new requirements for restriction warnings

Commission implementing Decision (EU) 2022/179 of 8 February 2022 and repealing Decision 2005/513/EC. The new protocol modifies the usage scenarios of 5G RLAN/Wi-Fi, and this adjustment will affect the part of the manual for 5G RLAN products (mobile phones, routers, notebooks, PCs, etc.) that restricts the use of warnings. Therefore, special attention should be paid to customers whose products support 5G RLAN.

 

Let's interpret it in detail. What are the main differences between the old and new versions? What are the main changes in the new resolution?

 

Old version: Decision 2005/513/EC

 
 

1. "Indoor use" means use in buildings, including places like it, such as aircraft, where shielding will generally provide the necessary attenuation to facilitate sharing with other services.


2. In the band 5 150-5 350 MHz, WAS/RLAN shall be limited to indoor use with a maximum average e.i.r.p of 200 mW.
Therefore, the indoor limited use warning in the product user manual only needs to write 5 150-5 350 MHz is indoor used only.

 

New: Decision (EU) 2022/179

 
 

1. Revised specifications for WAS/RLAN in the frequency band 5 150-5 250 MHz: facilities inside buildings and road vehicles, trains and aircraft, and limited outdoor use.

2. "Indoor use" is defined as use in an enclosed space that will provide the necessary attenuation to facilitate sharing with other services. Indoor use can be divided into four use cases, as identified in the technical conditions annexed to this decision, representing specific scenarios: inside buildings, inside road vehicles, inside trains and inside aircraft.

3. By 31 March 2022, Member States shall designate and make available the frequency bands 5 150-5 250 MHz, 5 250-5 350 MHz and 5 470-5 725 MHz on a non-exclusive basis for the implementation of WAS/ RLAN in accordance with the technical conditions specified in the annex.

 

In accordance with the technical conditions specified in the Annex (EU) 2022/179, the warnings in the product user manual for the conditions of use of 5G WAS/RLAN need to be revised. For details, please refer to the "Permitted Operations" column in the following three tables:
