In 2026, the global landscape of clean energy and electronic product manufacturing is undergoing a profound transformation driven by regulatory agencies in various regions. From Australia to India, and then to Malaysia and Taiwan, waves of new regulations regarding the safety, performance, and market access of batteries, energy storage systems, inverters, and related electronic products are surging.

Australia

Energy storage battery safety standards bid farewell to old regulations: SA TS 5398 era begins. Starting from January 1, 2026, the Australian energy storage battery standard will officially transition from the old guidelines to SA TS 5398: Energy Storage Devices - Safety Requirements. This new regulation not only considers modular components, lead-acid batteries, and emerging energy storage technologies, but also integrates existing compliance methods.

The access standards for smart inverters are becoming stricter: CSIP-AUS v1.2 has become a new directive. Starting from July 2026, certain regions in Australia will be required to comply with SA TS 5573:2025- Australian General Smart Inverter Specification and Testing Procedure. As the core of the smart grid, the standardization and enforcement of communication protocols for inverters is an inevitable choice to ensure the stability and safety of the power grid.

Multiple energy storage products have seen a significant increase in risk levels: Level 3 regulation has become the "high-voltage line" for market access. On February 12, 2026, Australia's revised AS/NZS 4417.2:2020 Amd 1:2026 officially pushed electric vehicle power supply equipment (EVSE), battery energy storage systems (BESS), and portable energy storage sources (PPS) to Level 3 risk levels.

India

Mandatory performance testing of portable secondary batteries: not only safety, but also 'sufficient'. On February 10, 2026, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) issued new regulations for portable sealed secondary lithium batteries and battery packs (cells), which mandated the addition of performance testing requirements for "rated capacity" in addition to the original safety testing. Manufacturers need to be alert to the transition deadline of April 30, 2027 and prepare more samples for new applications to cope with the increasingly complex certification process.

Photovoltaic grid connected inverters welcome the "Energy Efficiency Medal": BEE Label Program launched. On November 12, 2025, the Indian Ministry of Energy launched the BEE label subsidy program for photovoltaic grid connected inverters below 100kW. Although it is currently voluntary, achieving the minimum overall efficiency specified in IS 17980:2022 and obtaining the BEE certification label will undoubtedly become an important bargaining chip for the product to stand out in market competition.

IT/AV product safety standard upgrade: Mobile power banks face new challenges. On March 9, 2026, the Indian BIS clarified that IT/AV products, including mobile power banks, will be fully migrated to the new standard IS/IEC 62368-1:2023. The old standard will be abolished on November 1, 2028.

Malaysia

Imported motor vehicle batteries bid farewell to paper letters and embrace electronic AP. Starting from January 1, 2026, the Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) announced that reusable motor vehicle batteries with specific customs codes will bid farewell to traditional paper "no objection letters" (NOLs) and instead be approved through the electronic license application system (AP).

Taiwan, China

Full coverage of mandatory inspection for photovoltaic inverters and power conversion systems (PCS). On November 24, 2025, BSMI in Taiwan announced that mandatory inspections will be implemented for photovoltaic inverters below 100kW, and revised the relevant inspection regulations for PCS.

The standard for lithium energy storage systems is moving towards uniformity, bidding farewell to power segmentation. On December 22, 2025, BSMI revised the inspection regulations for energy storage devices, clarifying that for lithium energy storage systems below 100kWh, power levels above and below 20kW will no longer be distinguished, and a unified set of inspection standards will be used for management. This standardization measure will simplify the compliance path for manufacturers.

Electric vehicle power batteries are subject to mandatory BSMI certification. On December 23, 2025, BSMI issued new regulations mandating that secondary lithium battery packs for M-class and N-class road vehicles with a speed exceeding 25km/h and a traction battery capacity of less than 100kWh must comply with Taiwan's CNS 16160 (2023 version) standard. As the mainstream of future travel, the safety supervision of electric vehicles' core power batteries has been raised to an unprecedented level.

Thermal diffusion testing is mandatory for energy storage cells and battery systems. On the same day, BSMI launched another attack to forcibly inspect energy storage cells, battery modules, and battery systems ranging from 1kWh to 100kWh. Among them, CNS 62619 and CNS 63056 (choose between short circuit and thermal diffusion) are mandatory for battery cells, while thermal diffusion testing in CNS 63056 is listed as a mandatory item for batteries and battery systems, demonstrating a high emphasis on thermal safety management of energy storage products.

Standardization of product inspection labeling, please refer to the official seal for details. On January 21, 2026, BSMI revised the "Measures for the Use of Product Inspection Marks" and provided detailed regulations on the marking positions of identification codes such as "R-track", aiming to rectify market chaos and ensure clear and accurate labeling.
