GS means "Geprufte Sicherheit" in German. It also means "Germany Safety". GS certification based on the German Product Safety Law (GPGS), in accordance with the European Union unified standard EN or German industrial standard DIN testing a voluntary certification, is the European market recognized German safety certification mark.
Products that can apply for GS certification are:
1. Household appliances, such as refrigerators, washing machines, kitchen utensils and so on.
2. Household machinery.
3. Sports supplies.
4. Household electronics, such as audio-visual equipment.
5. Electrical and electronic office equipment, such as copier, fax machine, shredder, computer, printer, etc.
6, industrial machinery, experimental measuring equipment.
7. Other safety-related products such as bicycles, helmets, ladders, furniture, etc.

GS Safety certification mark
1.GS mark is a safety certification mark authorized by TUV,VDE and other institutions of German Labor Department.
GS logo is a safety symbol accepted by the majority of customers in Europe. GS certified products usually sell at a higher unit price and are more popular.
2. Ec CE Regulation,1997.1.1. "Low Voltage Directive (LVD)". GS already includes all the requirements for "Low voltage instruction (LVD)". Therefore, after obtaining the GS mark, some organizations will issue CE certificate (COC) for LVD of this product for free, and manufacturers will obtain LVD certificate when applying for GS.
3. Requirements for products and documents of gs certification:
- The product shall pass the type test of European safety standard.
- The product structure shall meet the standard requirements.
- Instruction manual (German, English) should meet the standard.
-English documents such as Structure Drawing, Circuit Drawing, List of Parts, etc. shall be prepared as required. Product testing shall be carried out according to the parameters provided in these documents.
4. gs certification has strict requirements on the factory quality assurance system, and the factory should be reviewed and inspected annually:
- The factory is required to establish its own quality assurance system in accordance with the ISO9000 system standard when shipping in bulk. At least the factory should have its own quality control system, quality records and other documents and sufficient production and inspection capacity.
- Before issuing GS certificate, the new factory shall be examined for qualification before issuing GS certificate.
- Factory should be inspected at least once a year after the certificate is issued. No matter how many TUV marks the factory applies for, the factory review is only required once.

GS Certification Scope

GS Certification Process
1) First meeting: Through the first meeting, the testing agency will or the agency will explain the specific certification procedures and relevant standards to the product engineer of the applicant, and provide the required documents and forms.
2) Application: The applicant shall submit the documents that meet the requirements. For electrical products, the final assembly drawing, electrical schematic diagram, bill of materials, product usage or installation instructions, differences between series and models and other documents shall be submitted.
3) Technical meeting: After the inspection agency has checked the documents of the applicant, it will arrange a technical meeting with the technical personnel of the applicant.
4) Sample test: The test will be carried out in accordance with the applicable standards and may be carried out at the manufacturer's laboratory or at any of the laboratories of the inspection agency located in each country.
5) Factory inspection: GS certification requires the production site to carry out safety-related program inspection.
6) Issue GS certificate.

GS Certification period
Generally, the length of time depends on whether the product needs to be modified or how quickly the manufacturer can submit the required product documentation. Overall, the time required is generally about 6 to 8 weeks.
GS Certification fee
The fee includes one-time certification fee, factory inspection fee and annual certificate fee. The exact number will depend on the type of product and the testing required. The certification body will provide you with a price reference after receiving the required documents submitted by the applicant. The market policy and credibility of each certification body are different, and the price will vary.

GS certified factory inspection requirements
1. Quality management
1.1 Is there a management organization independently responsible for product quality, and the person in charge is named?
1.2 Have training plans been developed and implemented for all types of personnel, especially for key process personnel? What about the personnel assessment system?
1.3 Proportion of quality management personnel in production personnel.
1.4 Are there production records for the key processes of the product and serial numbers for the product packaging? If not, how to find the defective products if quality problems occur?
1.5 Whether warehouse management, production and operation personnel have conducted relevant inspection:
1.5.1 Raw materials 1.5.2 Production process 1.5.3 Finished products
1.6 Who is responsible for quality check?
1.7 Whether to hold quality analysis meeting regularly, timely deal with quality problems, and do a good job of feedback work.
2. Production line of certified products
2.1 Production flow chart and quality control point diagram of products with or without certification and production system explicitly stipulated.
2.2 Whether the equipment, instruments and measuring tools on the production line have maintenance system and regular inspection system and records.
2.3 Whether there is any key production equipment, process equipment and test equipment, and what is the accuracy? Provide the relevant list.
3. Raw materials, purchased parts, spare parts
3.1 Provide the catalog of key parts and key materials.
3.2 Explain how to ensure the quality of raw materials, purchased parts and spare parts (whether the spare parts and raw materials inspection standards have been prepared). There is no requisition and storage system.
4. Measurement
4.1 Is there a metering institution?
4.2 Work scope and personnel profile of the Metrological institution (Have they passed the assessment of the metrological department?)
4.3 If there is no measuring institution, please indicate the measurement unit.
5. Factory test mechanism
5.1 List the name of the main test equipment and the manufacturer, whether there is a certificate of qualification and valid identification certificate (accuracy, grade), which tests can be carried out.
5.2 Test Environment
6. Technical documents and data
6.1 Product drawings, product technical conditions and process documents.
6.2 Test report of products applied for certification in the last six months.
6.3 Percentage of detected waste and defective products in total production in the last six months.

Documents to be submitted for GS certification

A CB certificate and report for the product can be provided and must include the group difference in Europe. Or provide the necessary information for safety assessment
- Product instruction manual (including safety warnings, maintenance instructions, accessories installation steps, etc.)
- Parts list (According to the relevant standard requirements, provide the key safety parts used in the product information. Parts information may include manufacturer, model, parameter and certification information. The requirements of parts shall consider the requirements of parts standard and final product standard)
- Circuit diagram and layout
- Product structure drawing
- Specifications of transformer and other parts
4. Parts in contact with food (if any)
Please provide a food hygiene authorization document issued by an authority for accessible black materials (plastics, coatings, etc.) or require a relevant test assessment (PAH).
5. Nameplate (German, GS logo with correct size is required)
6. Electromagnetic Compatibility Evaluation Report (EMC) and Factory Compliance Statement (DOC)

GS Certification - Action
The GS mark indicates that the product has been tested for safety by a credible, independent organization. The GS mark, while not legally required, does make manufacturers subject to strict German (European) product safety laws in the event of an accident caused by a product malfunction. Therefore, GS logo is a powerful marketing tool, which can enhance customers' confidence and purchase desire. Although GS is the German standard, most countries in Europe agree. While meeting the GS certification, the product will also meet the CE mark requirements of the European Community. Unlike the CE, the GS mark is not legally required, but since the safety awareness has penetrated into the general consumer, an electrical appliance with the GS mark may have greater competitiveness than the general product in the market.
